In a stunning move, Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred has removed Pete Rose, "Shoeless" Joe Jackson and other deceased players from Major League Baseball's permanently ineligible list. Rose, baseball's all-time hits leader, and Jackson are now eligible for the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York. Rose was banned for gambling in 1989 by Bart Giamatti. Jackson and seven of his teammates on the Chicago White Sox were banned for throwing the 1919 World Series by Kennesaw Mountain Landis, the first commissioner of Baseball. It’s a decision that’s been decades, and in several cases, over a century in the making. J.J. Cooper, Editor of Baseball America based out of Durham, joined Jeff Hamlin to discuss the decision.
