Brenda Stephens, former Hyconeechee Library Director, has been honored with one of North Carolina’s highest civilian awards—the Order of the Long Leaf Pine. Bestowed by Gov. Roy Cooper before the end of his term, the award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated extraordinary service to the state.Stephens has spent decades serving her community, not only through her work in libraries but also as a dedicated member and officer of the Orange County Schools Board of Education for more than 20 years. Her leadership extended statewide when she was elected president of the N.C. School Boards Association.
She joined Jeff Hamlin to reflect on her career and the honor of receiving this prestigious award.
