Show Notes

1430 Q, in Sacramento is a 6 storey light-frame building on top of 2 storeys of concrete. Although tall, 4 – 6 storey stick frame buildings aren't yet common in Australia, they're somewhat the norm in USA and Canada. When sticking to the right design principles, there is proven cost savings compared to traditional construction. Today we're speaking with Ryan Miller, a Senior Associate of 15 years experience in Buehler's Sacramento Office about:

  • Why light frame material makes sense
  • The interaction between concrete and timber
  • Designing and detailing for vertical movement

If you're interested in designing taller stick frame buildings, I recommend you download WoodSolutions Technical Guide #50 – Structural Engineering Of Mid-rise Timber Buildings.
