S6 Ep 1022 Year old Sheree Hargreaves Spreading Awareness of Early Menopause

Today’s guest is a truly inspirational woman, she is resilient, courageous warm and honest. We first met Sheree Hargreaves in October 2022 at the Menopause rally in Parliament square. At 15 Sheree was diagnosed with Premature Ovarian Insufficiency or POI, a diagnosis that she kept hidden from her friends and family for four years.Sheree was 19 and at home during lockdown when she felt ready to discuss POI more openly, saying “when I was 15 I would have loved to have heard someone spread awareness about early menopause and make it seem like it’s a bit more normal than I thought it was.”Sheree is now active within the Menopause grass roots community, raising awareness to help and support, not only teenagers but women in natural menopause too.In this Episode Sheree discusses the impact of menopause on her life at university, her ‘Granny days’, how opening up has lifted a huge weight off her shoulders. She is honest about her feelings toward fertility, boyfriends and relationships and tells us that if she’s not past her prime in menopause at 22 then no one is, whatever your age. Premature Ovarian Insufficiency happens when the ovaries stop functioning before the natural age of menopause. This means the ovaries no longer produce eggs and are unable to produce the hormones oestrogen and progesterone which are really important for women's health and wellbeing. Approximately one in 100 women under the age of 40, one in 1,000 women under 30, and one in 10,000 under 20 experience POI.POI can be caused by autoimmune conditions, cancer treatment, surgery or a genetics, however for 90 per cent of women diagnosed with POI, the cause is unfortunately idiopathic, meaning there is no known cause and it happens spontaneously. You can watch the full interview on our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFgmHLcdx28eco-XlkWYwUA Do you know who Stan McClain from Florida is? S6 Ep 5Homelessness and Women with The Connection at St Martins & Solace Women’s Aid

There is a hidden crisis on the streets in England it is estimated that around 8000 people are sleeping rough every night and a growing percentage of rough sleepers are women. The Connection at St Martin in the Fields support people sleeping rough in the heart of London. The Connection opens their doors to everyone who needs a place to call home helping them to recover and find their way off the streets, getting to know everyone they work with. Our guest today is Ellie Greenhalgh, women’s development unit (WDU) manager with The Connection at St Martin’s who work with Solace Women’s Aid to provide a safe space for homeless women. Ellie discusses with us the link between violence against women and girls and homelessness, and tells us that almost all women sleeping rough have experienced gendered violence in their lives, yet homelessness among women has received less attention from policy makers, the media, and in some cases service providers, resulting in a gap between women’s needs and existing service provision. We discuss these gaps and what the WDU are doing to close them. We hear how Women’s homelessness is often invisible meaning they cannot access the correct support and the importance of gathering realistic data for women on the streets.Ellie talks to us about the importance of changing the narrative for homeless females and why menstrual care and ensuring a safe space is vital for the women and how a new census collecting more comprehensive data for homeless women will hopefully start to make changes. We also learn the best ways we can all aid and support women who sleep rough. Did you know the UK government’s credit card bill for 2021 was £145 million?Jinty looks into the more bizarre items they’ve been spending tax payers money on.Housework who does it in your house? Philosophers are arguing about how men and women perceive domestic chores, we discuss why some men are housework blind. In the Book Collective we continue with Sarah Graham’s bestselling book, Rebel Bodies. We thought we could not be any more shocked but after reading chapter 5, All in Your Head: Mental Health and Hysteria the gaping disparities within the health service are shocking. We tell you about our WI challenge during vulva cancer awareness month and there’s a fantastic quote. It’s another episode jam packed with chat, your comments, and all the usual shenanigans. S6 Ep 3Mayhem & Menopause

Whilst Ministers reject mandatory menopause training for GPs we have some good news for Devon and our #wheresmyclinic Menopause Clinic for Devon Campaign that we share in this episode.Lou looks at the statistics that show sex can be better in menopause and how destructive journalism from female journalists is harming women’s mental health. Have you tried looking for images on the internet of menopausal women? Why is there such a lack of diversity and under representation? We discuss how this needs to change. For the first time in history a public holiday has been named after a woman. This week, Ireland celebrated a brand new Public holiday on 1st February called Saint Brigids day and Jinty investigates who St Brigid is and why we should all be a bit more St Brigid. If you think you cause mayhem you might want to think again when we explain the true meaning of the word, with the story of Bertha Boronda from 1908.Who doesn’t like a Brussel sprout? Well, this little vegetable gets our scrutiny this week. In the Book Collective we continue reading Sarah Graham’s book, Rebel Bodies, a guide to the gender health gap revolution. We hear from the listeners who are reading along with us. It’s an emotive chapter that has some shocking stories and statistics about the failing of the health service for women and the LGBTQ+ community and why there is a ‘fatphobia’ in medicine. We complete the balance WI set by our lovely listener, Els, you can watch how we got on our Instagram page @womenkindcollective and we have a new one linked to St Brigid. If you have trouble sleeping you won’t want to miss this episode. Our guest this week is the absolutely brilliant Sarah Wilde an insomnia coach and Cognitive Behavioural Therapist for Insomnia (CBTi). This method is a way to reset your sleep with no supplements, pills or sprays needed and now Sarah uses this to form the foundation of her Meno-insomnia® Method coaching programme which can teach you how to get a good night's sleep so that you wake up feeling like YOU again.Often, sleep problems are one of the first symptoms women experience in peri menopause, with 40 to 60% of menopausal women experiencing sleep issues. So, Sarah went back to basics and looked at the science and research which confirmed what she knew from experience- that CBTi had been proven to be a natural solution for perimenopausal & post-menopausal people with insomnia.Sarah says that she can ‘help women sleep better naturally so that they can have the energy to do what they want.’ In this interview Sarah explains the positives of sleep drive and our Circadian rhythm and how having good sleep hygiene can be a positive until the rituals and habits stop working. We discuss the physiology of how Menopause affects out sleep, why does our body temperature make a difference? She gives you some great tips on how to aid better sleep, whether your sleep is broken, or you have trouble getting off to sleep. You can watch the full unedited interview on our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFgmHLcdx28eco-XlkWYwUA The gender health gap comes into the conversation this week and not just with our brilliant book club book, Jinty discusses the severe and damaging short comings from the first peered review paper written by expert doctors and scientists who treat chronic urinary tract infections how the medical profession is failing around 1.7 million patients. In the Book Collective we continue with Sarah Graham’s Rebel Bodies, in chapter 2 the gaping gender health gap around menstrual and hormonal health throws up some shocking research. S4 Ep 6Histamine Intolerance with Amantha King

In today’s podcast we talk Histamine with Amantha King and why as our oestrogen levels rise with HRT so does our histamine. There’s talk of why Emma Thompson regrets the demise of the full bush and we find out why pubic hair is actually a natural dry lubricant. There’s fashion news on how to wear a party top and also why more women orgasm when masturbating than through penetrative sex. She is recognised as a specialist in her field, and advises businesses on how to get the most from their important asset, their people. Amantha gives us so many facts about histamine and how it can affect our body throughout menopause- you really will not want to miss this episode. You can watch the full interview on our YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFgmHLcdx28eco-XlkWYwUA In the Book Collective we continue with Anita Diamant’s The Red Tent, in today’s chapters we meet Rebecca, Dinah’s grandmother and far from being a warm receptive woman, she is a hard task master, a revered healer with people come from miles around to be healed by her. S4 Ep 5ADHD in Women and Girls with Mitty James

In this week’s episode we meet Mitty James a broadcaster and musician who was diagnosed with ADHD at 13 years old.20yr old Mitty blows away the myths of what it’s like to live with ADHD as a woman, from her diagnosis to coming out of the closet at the age of 14.We have the Book Collective where we continue with Anita Diamant’s The Red Tent, there’s a British Foodie from Lou that is almost impossible to turn vegan and we catch up with the WI, our walking challenges. There’s a look into the huge prescription waste and how the NHS loses 300 million pounds every year, why we should all know the Tail of Spence, plus all the usual shenanigans, the Collective’s comments and forgetting words! We’ve talked previously on our podcast about how Autism presents differently in girls and women, in fact we have a whole episode dedicated to this subject. But what about ADHD, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder? We know that more boys are diagnosed but is this because fewer girls have ADHD or is it more likely that their traits are being masked and being missed as with Autism? Mitty James is a broadcaster and musician living in Devon, with ADHD. They stumbled through a very academic upbringing with professors and doctors for parents, and went to a high achieving boarding school. All this with a brother dealing with Asperger’s syndrome and ADHD, coming to terms with her sexuality and living through a traumatic event made for a difficult time. Mitty came out the closet at 14 and was diagnosed with PTSD and anxiety at 16, we learn what a day in the life of Mitty is like, how one task can take almost all day, the depression and anxiety surrounding ADHD and how being with someone that can support makes life so much easier. You can watch the full interview on our YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFgmHLcdx28eco-XlkWYwUA And find Mitty on Instagram @mxttyzIn the Foodie we are looking at British food and as it was the Platinum Jubilee last weekend, Lou made the Jubilee trifle, but how did she get on? Other than making the lemon curd Swiss roll she followed the cheats recipe: https://feastgloriousfeast.com/lemon-amaretti-trifle/ In the Book Collective we continue with the glorious Red Tent by Anita Diamant, the family of Jacob are travelling to his homeland where he meets a terrible fate that changes the family’s plans. Dinah is finding her spirit within water and we begin to hear her story. Next week we read up to page 212. The WI of mediative or power walking is going well with the Collective joining us with their stories of walking. And finally there’s a superb Quote from Edith Eger a Holocaust survivor. S4 Ep 4Ladies First, with Jinty & Lou

As the Jubilee celebrations are in full flow we thought in this week’s podcast we would look at women in 1952 and in 2022 and there’s some quite shocking differences. We have a royal quiz, for you to test your knowledge on all things royalty, and ensuring we keep it real we talk dildos whilst travelling, Jodie Comer’s one woman play, Prima Facie and also why we celebrate a Texan mum. There’s high fashion news for your feet and there’s talk of the Westminster/Pestminster scandal that is unravelling. With the sell out production of Prima Facie, a brilliant play starring Jody Comer, that we were lucky enough to attend, we were appalled at how the legal system treats rape victims, so we decided to research a little more and found some truly distressing statistics, only 16% of rape victims report their assault to the police and 49% had been a victim of rape or sexual assault before. We ask if enough is being done since the Minister for Justice announced new funding to support victims of rape?We review the sell out play which you can soon see at cinemas near you, and highly recommend that you do. You’ll be in good company, we were sat with Jeremy Irons and Sinead Cusack! Our Book Collective reads up to Book 2, Chapter 3 Of Anita Diamant’s the Red Tent, we discuss the treatment of Ruti by the women and how Dinah finds her body. Jacob leaves Laban’s lands and moves the women to his homeland, but will there be a warm welcome for them? Next week we read Book 2 to chapter 5 page 175. We announce our new Foodie theme for June and we find out if we have completed any of the walks for the WI? There’s a thought provoking quote to get you thinking this week plus the Collective’s comments as well as all the usual banter and brain fog!If you’ve enjoyed our podcast Please subscribe or favourite and leave a review- we will know and it makes a huge difference. S3 Ep 11Toxic Relationships with Author Maddie Anholt

Maddy Anholt is a comedian, actor, Women's Aid Ambassador, and the author of How to Leave Your Psychopath and she is our very lovely guest on this week’s podcast where we discuss her book, toxic relationships and identify some of the manipulative traits of a psychopath. There’s a discussion on a phallic Cornish luxury hotel, seagulls that fly over a 100 miles to visit their favourite fish and chip shop and also some important information on the HRT shortage that is hitting the UK.We have a mouth-watering foodie from Jinty and it’s a curry with peaches and comes in at under 30p a portion. We continue with Maddy’s fantastic book How To Leave Your Psychopath and how is everyone getting on with the WI Death Wishes list? We have Maddy Anholt with us this week as our guest, we are reading her superb first book How To Leave Your Psychopath in our Book Collective this month. The book offers a candid insight into the complex world of coercive control and abusive relationships from a woman who has spent her entire dating life trapped in them. We talk to Maddy about how she became a Womens aid Ambassador, how lockdown changed her plans from tour to book (and soon another tour). In her book she cleverly weaves her own experiences with science & psychology whilst at the same time making us laugh, she explains how important the format of the book was and how it began. She explains that ‘Each chapter in the book is a memoir, psychology and scienceHave you heard of Negging? Gaslighting? Maddy explains these, (& more) aspects of coercive behaviour and how to spot red flags in your relationship - which isn’t easy and she explains why!Maddy also opens up about how writing the book helped her understand boundaries, and the value of vulnerability. This is a must listen for anyone in a relationship or not. We learned so much and it helped us to make sense of some relationships in our own past.We had a blast talking to Maddy and you can see the interview on our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFgmHLcdx28eco-XlkWYwUA As our campaign for an NHS menopause clinic in Devon moves on we share with you the news from the campaign café we held before the very first Menopause Café held at Bumble and Bee in Devon, and it was a great evening with a room full of wonderful women. S3 Ep 9Testosterone- Not just for boys with Dr Zoë Hodson

In this week’s podcast we meet the extraordinary Dr Zoe Hodson who talks all things testosterone during the menopause and why it’s not just for boys.Did you know that pre menopause women produce 3-4 times as much testosterone than oestrogen, so why is this hormone not on our GP’s radar? Find out as Dr Zoe answers all ours & the Collectives questions. We hear some fashion news that takes us back to the 80’s and there’s a bit of beauty news on the new Maybelline tattoo brow, but can we read how to use it?In the Foodie it’s a new month and the theme is healthy food on a budget with a very tasty meal from Jinty. In the Book Collective we start to read Maddy Anholt’s How To Leave Your Psychopath, and it’s already a great read. There’s a Movie Collective this month, Lou went to the cinema and reports back on Kenneth Branagh’s Death on The Nile. And there’s a WI to get you naked and love your body! Dr Zoe Hodson has been a GP for 20 years and has been working full time in menopause care for the last 2 years. For the last 12 months Zoe has been campaigning with menopause support for women who are refused testosterone. We learn how a deficiency in testosterone may effect the body in menopause, and it’s not only about libido! In fashion news the slouchy tailored suit is back! Who knew that this fashion trend from the 80’s would make a return to the catwalk? In beauty news Lou struggles to open and then read Maybelline’s new Tattoo Brow, is she going to recommend it? Maddy Anholt is an ambassador for Women’s Aid and her new book, How To Leave Your Psychopath will have you squirming at the psycho’s that are out in the dating world, we begin by meeting Damien…. And he’s definitely on the psychometer. Maddy tells us, What you put up with at the end of the relationship is not what you would have put up with in the beginning. Maddy is hitting the nails on the head with this book. As inflation is on the rise, fuel prices are going through the roof, this month we have decided to look at healthy food on a budget. Jinty kicks off this month’s foodie with a lentil and beef cassoulet. It’s brimming with goodness and comes in at under £2.50 a portion. In the Movie Collective, Lou takes a trip to a very atmospheric cinema to watch Kenneth Branagh’s Death on the Nile. Branagh plays Poirot and we get a prequel to the film and a look at a young Poirot’s love life. As good as it was to see it on the big screen, would we recommend you wait until it comes onto the small screen? The WI this week is from Lou and it’s about getting to know and love your body in all its naked glory. So get the heating on and get ready for this revealing WI. S3 Ep 8Living in a World designed for Men

In this week’s podcast there’s an awful lot of exposing! We’re talking gender bias; we throw light on how the lack of data in healthcare is killing women and it’s all to do with Aristotle (well in a round about way!). Also, in the workplace - why are women marginalised and made to work below their skillset? We dissect the incredible Invisible Women book by Caroline Criado Perez who gender myth busts the everyday items and lifestyles that we take for granted as females that are purely designed for males. We conclude Bernardine Evaristo’s Girl, Woman, other and what a fantastic read. There’s fashion news you might not want to hear about from Jinty and Lou finds there’s a lot of fuckery around. We finish our Chinese Foodie month with a delicious Mango dessert. We don’t have to dig too deeply for the gender bias that is everywhere in our society. So why is there always a queue for the ladies’ toilets when the men’s are always empty? It’s all down to Urban plumbing & planning and the expectation that men require the same space as women, but menstruation, clothing issues and women who take children to toilet are not considered. Women are walking in the dark to find privacy in countries that do not have facilities for female toilets, our basic human function to urinate is being denied and putting women and girls in vulnerable situations.Did you know Iceland is the best place for a woman to live? In 1975 Icelandic women went on strike with 90% stopping all the unpaid work women do around the home. The worse time for women is during conflict and natural disasters when violence against women escalates, there’s also the problem that in some countries that suffer natural disasters, girls are set up to fail due to social prejudices against girls learning to swim and climb trees. And there’s a whole lot more we find out that that exposes why the World is designed for men. In The Book Collective we conclude the brilliant Bernardine Evaristo’s Girl, Woman, Other. And what a WOW of a book. This beautiful book comes to a superb conclusion with the characters coming together in the final pages. The ending is a sweet finale which will probably bring a tear to your eyes! Our new book for March is, How to Leave Your Psychopath, by Maddy Anholt, we can’t wait to start reading this essential handbook for escaping toxic relationships. In The Foodie Lou makes the final recipe for our Chinese month, a vegan mango pudding. It’s a light and palette cleansing dish with vegan gelatine.Chinese Mango Pudding – Veganhttps://www.aspicyperspective.com/mango-pudding-dairy-free/ In the Wine Collective we try a fruity red, Trivento Private Reserve Malbec from Argentina, it’s an easy drinkable red with plum and raspberry aromas and is £10 in Tesco’s and currently £8 in Sainsburys. Jinty chooses a nonalcoholic rum from M&S -Golden Spice and Cola. In the WI it’s our final week of learning our dance routine for Cameo’s Candy Girl. Thanks to one of our Collective , Elena for giving us this challenge. It’s a real treat on the eyes especially with our cod pieces! S3 Ep 7Feminism, Politics and Art with illustrator Rosie Johnson

This week we sort out all the worlds problems with our guest Rosie Johnson of Rosie Johnson Illustrates. We are very lucky that Rosie is based here in Devon but her creative talents are an international success, producing Prints, cards, fashion, Jewellery and pins. She also does design work, book illustration and as if that’s not enough she’s invented a great card game for children, Natter Matters. We get angry this week at topics in the news, especially footballers and their sponsors and how raising our voice can be very cathartic. There’s fashion news – are we ready to embrace the most uncomfortable item of clothing that’s making a come-back? Our #wheresmyclinic campaign for a Menopause Clinic in Devon has now launched a website with the petition and template letters to send to your MP and local CCG. https://menopauseclinicfordevon.co.uk In the Book Collective we are on our penultimate week of Bernadine Evaristo’s Girl, Woman, Other. The Foodie continues with our theme this month, Chinese cuisine. Rosie was a primary school teacher for 15 years, But has been illustrating for nearly 6 years. A self confessed bleeding heart lefty snowflake who loves marmite who invented a card game called Natter Matters to help children and adults talk through difficult emotional subjects. We created our own Natter Matters Womenkind Collective styl-ey and discussed all the important things in life in Rosie’s unique way. To find Rosie’s online shop click on the link. https://rosiejohnsonillustrates.com The Book Collective continue with Bernadine Evaristo’s Girl, Woman, Other, the grammatically different book is so beautiful how the characters are all entwined and we discuss how our opinions of the characters change from the start and end of their chapters. It’s raw and totally enthralling read that every woman should read. It’s another cooking day for Jinty in the Foodie this week, and it’s a very tasty and nutritious salt and pepper tofu stir fry. Our Wine Collective as we approach the end of the month is announced with Lou choosing Trivento Malbec a well-balanced velvety red from Argentina and priced in supermarkets around £9. Our WI learning to dance Cameo’s Candy Dance routine, and it’s marginally better this week although there is still an issue with knowing our left foot from our right! S3 Ep 5Turning the tables on Menopause with Ruby Walsh

In this week’s podcast Jinty and Lou get interviewed by their guest Ruby Walsh who is researching for her book. We speak openly and honestly about the menopause through the dark times to now being able to understand what are bodies were going through and how women are not considered valid in society once they can no longer produce children. We look at some of the more unusual menopausal symptoms in an A-Z of symptoms and it’s not all about hot flushes and brain fog!We discuss the positives of friendship and how through the pandemic we might have unwittingly ‘pruned’ our friends and Jinty has some breaking fashion news, we also discuss Ricky Gervais’s Afterlife and the lasting legacy the series has given us. Do you know where ‘Pinch, Punch first of the month’ came from? Neither did we until Jinty investigated! There’s a new book for The Book Collective, Girl, Woman. Other by Bernadine Evaristo who we discovered after reading The Female Lead, we loved her story and are looking forward to reading up to page 150 for the next week.In the foodie we celebrate Chinese New-Year with a traditional Chinese tea ceremony. And there’s a new WI from one of the Collective. Our guest this week is 24 year old Ruby Walsh who wants to find out more about peri menopause, she asked if she could interview us, well obviously we agreed - mainly because menopausal women are so often only written about in the very stereotypical way- hot flushes and being chaotic! And although both these things may happen it certainly does not represent most women. We thought it would be nice to chat with Ruby on the podcast so we can find out more about her and she can turn the tables and ask us some questions about our own menopause which we thought may resonate with some of you. It’s an open conversation and no topic is off limits. Ruby says, ‘as women, we experience a lot of pressure in our lives, from being “too this'', or “too that”, reminded of the time-restraints, that our fertile clock is ticking and that, if you are not fertile, your value as a woman is diminished. We go through stages in our lives, constantly changing and evolving, and yet one very important change, is not spoken about enough, especially not inter-generationally, and that is menopause.’ In the Book Collective we are looking forward to starting Girl, Woman, Other by Bernadine Evaristo, the Booker judges rated this book as ‘passionate, razor sharp, brimming with energy and humour, a must read about modern Britain and womanhood…dazzling.’ We are going to read up to page 150 for next week’s book discussion. For the Foodie as it was Chinese New-Year when we recorded the podcast, Jinty prepared a traditional Chinese tea ceremony - we learn the correct way to drink the tea and how to appreciate the flavours. There’s a new WI and it’s from Elena one of the Collective and she has invited us to learn a dance routine…as we both have no coordination it’s going to be a fun month dancing! As our campaign for a Menopause Clinic in Devon begins to build momentum we have a new email address for anyone to send their testimonies into about menopause care in Devon: [email protected] also have new hashtag #wheresmyclinic A petition is coming soon along with a campaign Facebook group Stay in touch Jinty and Lou --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/womenkindcollectivepodcast/message☕ SUBSCRIBE for honest chats on women’s health, feminist issues, sisterhood & smashing the patriarchy, one cuppa at a time.💛 Enjoying the podcast? S3 Ep 1Navigating the Menopause with Elizabeth Joseph

S2 Ep 16Living with Type 1 Diabetes with Daisy Hockings-Thompson

Growing up with Type 1 Diabetes In this week’s podcast we talk to a woman who has grown up with Type 1 Diabetes, Daisy Hockings-Thompson, Lou’s daughter. Daisy talks to us about her diagnosis, the teenage years and how even before getting out of bed in the morning it affects her every-day life.We look at how hormones affect insulin when menstruating and during menopause. In the Book Collective we find out what’s happening in this instalment of Bella Mackie’s book How To Kill Your Family, has Grace the main character killed everyone yet? The Foodie is all about Easy Christmas treats and we taste some exceptionally tasty treats from Jinty, and finally there’s a new WI for Lou and the Collective from Jinty which is Free, but will we be able to do it? There’s some exciting news we have launched a YouTube Channel for the podcast, interviews and The 2 Deb’n Maids. Our guest this week is a very special one, Daisy Hockings-Thompson is Lou’s daughter and a type 1 diabetic. Type 1 diabetes affects 8% of the population of the UK, it is caused when the body’s own immune system destroys cells within the pancreas and the pancreas stops producing a hormone called insulin which we need to give us energy. Daisy talks about her diagnosis at 10 years old and the troubled teenage years and the constant monitoring she has to do every day just to be able to get out of bed. We learn about hypos and hypers and the fatal consequence of both if left untreated. We talk about how hormones affect insulin levels during menstruation and during the menopause and we also learn about the huge financial divide for people that can afford the latest technologies and how even in the USA type 1 diabetics are dying because they cannot afford insulin. You can watch Daisy’s full interview on our Womenkind Collective YouTube channel, where you can also catch up with those 2Deb’n maids, Flotsam and Jetsom. In the Book Collective this week we are a little behind so we will catch-up with How To Kill Your Family by Bella Mackie next week, Lou didn’t want to put any spoilers out there for jinty! We also announce our new book for January 2022. The Foodie theme is easy Christmas treats and once again Jinty has cooked up some easy (vegan) gingerbread treats and they were yoga poses, they’ll make you sit down and eat them with a mug of tea, just what you need leading up to Christmas.See below for recipe There’s a new WI from Jinty to Lou and The Collective that she has been trialling for the past week, it’s all about self-love and positivity and we think you’re going to love it. Please do subscribe to our YouTube channel where you can see our 2 Deb’n maids and catch our latest interviews.YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFgmHLcdx28eco-XlkWYwUAIngredients•1tbsp ground chia seed•140g vegan block•100g dark muscovado sugar•3tbsp maple or golden syrup•350g plain flour, plus extra for dusting•1tsp bicarbonate of soda•1tbsp ground ginger•2tsp ground cinnamonMethod-•STEP 1Combine the chia seed with 2½ tbsp water, and leave to thicken for 5 mins. Line two baking sheets with baking parchment. Mix the vegan block, sugar, bicarb, spices and flour in a bowl with your hands and crumble until it resembles sand. Stir in the chia mix and syrup. Mix together until it comes together into a smooth dough. Who has time to chill it? I didn’t but you may, if so chill for 45 mins. •STEP 2Heat the oven to 200C/180C fan/gas 6. Roll the dough out on a lightly floured surface to a 5mm thickness. Stamp out as many gingerbread people or Yogi’s, as you can, then re-roll the trimmings and continue until all the dough is used. S2 Ep 15Ayurveda, marmalade, and brain fog with Guest Sunita Passi

In this weeks Womenkind Collective podcast we talk to the fabulous Sunita Passi about her new book, The Dr Won’t See You Now, she explains why there was a need for a book about the Ayurvedic healing system now from the impact of Covid-19. There’s a great foodie for stir-it-up Sunday, but it does go a bit haywire! We find out the Cambridge dictionary’s word of the year is, and it’s a good one. We find out how Lou got on with her WI and Jinty has been to the cinema and has a movie review. There’s also a story about Frank Cooper’s marmalade and Lou’s not happy! Sunita Passi is an Ayurvedic practitioner who has written a book, The Dr Won’t See You Now, advocating now is the time to heal healthcare, it’s a wake-up call to the power of Ayurveda. Sunita was an investigative journalist prior to becoming an Ayurvedic practitioner, she has put her passion and knowledge into this book, which is accessible and a great entry level book, especially for those that are despondent with the health care system as it is at the moment. The book is interactive with standalone chapters it has wit and knowledge, there’s a dosha quiz at the end of the book to help determine your dosha. Sunita is a great guest who shares her passion and knowledge with the Collective. The Foodie that both Jinty and Lou bought all the ingredients for their Christmas puddings but hadn’t read the recipe properly, find out what they both did wrong and both are blaming the menopause…..so they’re going to sort their cock-up out and stir-it-up this coming Sunday. Jinty brings a jar of Frank Cooper’s marmalade in and we find out Sarah-Jane, Frank’s wife actually made the marmalade but was not recognised on the jar, is it time for change? There’s no Wine Collective this month as we are saving the best tipples for our Christmas party on December 19th. The Book Collective, get to grips with Grace and her narcissistic ways, will she get out of prison? Will she complete her final murder? It’s quite hilarious and is definitely a page turner. Jinty has been to the movies and watched the latest Marvel film, Eternals, it’s long but very much worth watching, Angelina Jolie stars and is a little forgetful in places, is this a nod to the menopause? Well worth watching with a fantastic story line. The WI about kindness makes Lou think about stereotyping especially where she drinks her coffee and when you do an act of kindness you should not have intention, it should be selfless, and should it just be for someone who cannot afford a coffee? S2 Ep 14Long Covid and Menopause with Lyn Curtis

There are over 2 million people suffering from Long Covid in the UK and 118 million people worldwide. We are still living within a pandemic, it is still claiming countless lives around the World, this week a report in the medical journal, The Lancet, states that Covid-19 has bought health inequalities into sharp focus on an international scale. In this week’s podcast we speak to a Covid survivor who is now suffering from long Covid, Lyn, she talks openly about the daily struggles she has living with this debilitating and still being researched condition, Lyn is also in peri menopause and is involved in research with Cambridge University. The Book Collective continue with How to Kill Your Family with Bella Mackie and the story is unfolding and taking on hilarious twists and turns from the protagonist, Grace. The Foodie get ready to stir-it-up this Sunday with a delicious Christmas pudding from the wonderful Nigella Lawson. And we find out what your lockdown purchases were with some fabulous comments from the Collective. Co-author of the Lancet report, Dr Louise Newson, GP and renowned menopause specialist, said: ‘For far too long women’s health has been a totally neglected area of research.’‘I would urge all healthcare professionals, particularly those working in dedicated Long COVID clinics, to ask “could these symptoms be due to the menopause or perimenopause”?But is it dangerous to be labelled with one or the other, what happens when there is a crossover ?We put this question to Lyn Curtis who is in peri-menopause and has been suffering from Long Covid for over 18 months. From the studies with Cambridge University and from the support groups she is part of for Long Covid we learn vulnerability to and mortality from acute Covid-19 infection is higher in men, whereas Long Covid disproportionately affects women, we start the conversation of trying to find out why? Lyn discusses the social and economic facts that surround Long Covid and why gender plays a part in symptoms that can be looked at as hormonal in men and women, but not in children? From Lyn’s interview we look at why we are at the tip of the iceberg for long term care and future conditions surrounding Long Covid. So what was your lockdown purchase? We find out some hilarious ones from the Collective, including what Lou and Jinty bought. Lou also recommends a great film, Freedom Writers and researches the story behind the film about gangs in Long Beach USA and a teacher that gives them tools and hope for a future. The Book Collective are in the middle of Bella Mackie’s How To Kill your Family, we read up to chapter 11 and find out why Grace is actually in prison, we also get an inside angle on the sex parties, and her plans for murder….it’s dark and so very funny. S2 Ep 12Alzheimer’s, more than a memory with Liz Ayre.

Liz Ayre & her two daughters are making sure that their loving Father & husband, Mike, is more than a memory by campaigning & raising awareness for the disease that took Mike from them at the young age of 51. This week we speak to Liz, a phenomenal women, who cared for her husband when he was diagnosed at 46 with young onset Alzheimer’s, whilst living abroad and bringing up two teenage daughters. She shares her story with the Collective, and we find out what little support is around for families caring for their loved ones with dementia. Our Book Collective begins Bella Mackie’s brilliant first novel, How to Kill Your Family and we announce our Stir it up November Foodie. There’s a new WI from one of the Collective which happily does not involve us taking our clothes off! Our guest Liz Ayre shares her story of caring for her loved ones with Dementia. Dementia is the umbrella term for over 200 forms of changes in, memory, thinking or reasoning, within that umbrella term sits Alzheimer’s. Liz nursed both her husband with young onset Alzheimer’s, and her mother with, Dementia with Lewy bodies, whilst bringing up a young teenage family. We learn how friends become a much needed support system. Liz highlights the lack of funding for carers and we learn that specialist dementia nurses are available in certain areas, Admiral nurses, but they are completely funded by donations. We look at the government cuts to social care funding in the budget, and the desperate need for support for families. Liz is using her knowledge from her personal experiences to help others in the same position and she signposts to where you can find help. The Book Collective will start reading How to Kill Your Family by Bella Mackie, her first novel and it’s already dark but very funny. We start to read to chapter 7 on page 96. Have you heard of Stir it up Sunday? As it’s the end of the month it’s Wine Collective and we reveal our alcoholic and non-alcoholic choices. Jinty went to Parliament Square on Friday October 29th for MP Carolyn Harris’s Menopause bill’s second reading, with some amazing results. Find out how she got on at the end of the podcast.Sophie Cleere is a life coach who aims to help women feel empowered in their life and bodies, she admits her journey through life has been a crazy mash-up of spiritual and personal growth and made a total fucking mess along the way! We talk about role models in our lives and the impact that has on us through the generations and as we grow-up the need for external validation. Sophie talks about her peri menopause and how it affected her life, recognising her symptoms earlier than most, and deciding to take body identical HRT. The Book Collective complete Tarana Burke’s Unbound, a truly beautiful memoir, there were tears from both Jinty and Lou in the final chapters, when Tarana realises her growth from the 7 year old who was raped by an older boy, when she eventually sees him again with his own family, he does not recognise her and her mother says, ‘He didn’t recognise you because you turned out to be a smart, beautiful, accomplished women despite him trying to take that away from you.’We announce our new book for the next month, How to Kill Your Family by Bella Mackie, a funny, sharp, dark and twisted novel…..we can’t wait to get started! As it’s the end of the month we introduce our Wine Collective and this month’s non-alcoholic choice from Jinty is Jukes Cordialities No6. Lou opts for a Marks & Spencer’s classic red No38, Pinot Noir from New Zealand, it’s a vegan medium bodied fruity red and is a great compliment to your Sunday Roast. Priced at £10 a flavoursome Sunday treat! Jinty once again has been busy in the kitchen, this time chopping her nuts and seeds for a tasty bowl of goodness to compliment the wine Collective. We finds out how Lou’s WI is going with her sleep and the B complex she is now taking, will there finally be a good night’s sleep for Lou? And, more positive news as Jinty gives you a report from Parliament Square, where she attended the Menopause rally.
