austerity, celibacy, even-mindedness, charity, renunciation, truthfulness, cleanliness, and regulative principles - all don't quite get to the root of material desire / Bhakti uproots the weeds of karma / the desire to enjoy this world (karma) and even the desire to become free of the sufferings of this world (jnana) are both "all about me" / Vyasa recommends Bhakti as a path free from fear - even while running with eyes closed / if your heart hasn't softened, you haven't understood what life is about
