New year, same problem: housing. Part of the new housing law that passed in special session in 2025 included the creation of a Council on Housing Development to advise and assist in reviewing regulations, developing guidelines and establishing programs concerning the growth of housing in the state. The council was supposed to have its first meeting January first; it did not happen and apparently, not everyone has been appointed to the council. We spoke with Senate Minority Leader, Steve Harding, about the implications for our housing crisis and whether the recently passed law was just ‘checkmark’ legislation.
