Recently, Stamford Mayor Caroline Simmons vetoed an ordinance passed by the Board of Representatives that would have banned the sale of cats and dogs in pet stores. There’s controversy surrounding that decision but also more discussion on whether to pass a statewide law banning the sale of cats and dogs in pet stores.
Should this continue to be a municipality decision or should Connecticut join states like New York, Vermont, and Maine banning the sales at all pet stores.
We got perspective from former State Representative Brenda Kupchick. She served from 2011 to 2019 where she worked hard to try and pass animal welfare laws.
