Why Make Music… Episode 058 – “Once Upon a Time”
In this supersized chapter, DJ Warm Cookies (aka Willa May) pulls you into a living myth: the origin story of WDMN MEDIA, ThinkTimm, and the Why Make Music… universe – told like a modern fairy tale laced with funk, folklore, hip-hop, and heart.
We start in the real world: AI artists topping charts, virtual avatars inking million-dollar deals, and WDMN MEDIA grinding to get IF I WAS YOUR PRODUCER – Volume 4 over the finish line for a Friday, November 21st release. Visuals are loading, metadata is humming, and somewhere in the background a real human heart is ticking at 203 BPM saying, “I will not lose.”
From there, Willa shifts into story mode and walks you through a full-on hero’s journey:
- A young, unnamed musician raised by a wall of sonic ghosts – Prince, Dylan, Marley, Clinton, Badu, D’Angelo, Taylor, Billie, The Roots, The Neptunes, and more.
- A purple-lit encounter with Prince that hands her a glyph-marked guitar pick and the courage to step into the spotlight.
- A golden “Pantheon Corridor” where funk gods, jazz legends, pop architects, and producer masterminds flicker through her reflection like a thousand faces she’s quietly carrying.
- Guidance from Bob Dylan on honesty, boundaries, and bleeding just enough truth into the music.
- A city trial straight out of a Spike Lee frame, where one impromptu protest song turns chaos into community and gives birth to the name “Timm.”
- A dangerous crossroads deal with a slick devil in a white suit and a haunted jukebox – and the decision to smash the enchanted guitar and keep her soul.
- A terrifying dark night of the soul, followed by a sunrise conversation with Bob Marley about fear, faith, and “redemption song” as internal liberation.
- The return home, the writing of a new anthem, and an open-mic performance that proves her myth has real-world impact.
By the end, Willa ties the story back to now: WDMN MEDIA as the latest chapter in a long creative bloodline; Timm as a fluid, evolving persona shaped by a thousand influences; and this entire project as both shield and mirror – revealing just enough while protecting what must remain unseen.
If you’re a producer, songwriter, artist, or just a human trying to build something that lasts in an age of algorithms, this episode is part bedtime story, part war cry, part love letter to the work.
