After the War Between the States freed slaves were robbing, stealing, and raping White women, and corrupt Northerners were oppressing Southerners; The original Klan started as a social club in Pulaski, Tennessee, bur grew exponentially as a White defensive organization; General Nathan Bedford Forrest was chosen as the national leader of the Klan, and ordered it dissolved when former Confederates had their voting rights restored.
