#Solo1: Skin In The Game & Moving From ZURICH To L.A.

What’s it like to have more skin in the game? Take on a new job? In a new city like L.A.? This is my first solo episode, it's personal. I talk about the pressure to succeed when you have skin in the game, and how to manage that by detaching from it. What I've observer and learned from people in L.A. And I talk about the anxiety and stress, and whether my coping mechanisms hold true being in this city. L.A. feels like an energetic match, tune in to find out why.

Show Notes

Experiences and stories I talk about:

  • LA attracts people who are willing to put themselves out there and try on a new skin: many people here  have skin in the game, they go out and just try, they learn to pivot, and learn how not to crack under pressure
  • Driven by a go getter mentality and seeing the need to fail forward: people allow themselves to just start and figure it out as they go
  • Having skin in the game produces anxiety: you’re always thinking "What’s next?" It’s easy to not relax into the now, because there is no finish line, no certainty. Progress requires work and repetition and a strong network of people that will help you work towards progress, success and collaboration. People in L.A. really rely on that network, it's all about who you know, and being like-able to do business with.
  • Detach to reduce stress: the highs are high, the lows are low. Surrendering and acknowledging that part of the process is to let go of this feeling that we are in control of everything, and to trust that the right thing will happen and come our way, eventually.
