BUBBA SHOT: "That Ain't My Truck"

A simple and obvious observation - the truck I am observing is not mine - turns into a brilliant song about loss and perhaps a metaphor for the one thing you can't directly discuss in country music if your name isn't Conway Twitty (the nasty). Rhett Akins 1995 hit "That Ain't My Truck" is a simple but beautiful tale of a woman picking the other man. Heart breaking, funny, catchy - it's a great song y'all.

Bubba Shot: "Lifestyles of the Not So Rich and Famous"

IN 1994 Tracy Byrd put out a satirical and catchy number taking a dig at popular television show "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous." The song went to number 4 and was beloved for its "down home" take on leading a simple life. But the song itself is genius. Not just for being catchy, relatable, and good 90's country, but also for giving the mythical "everyman" an anthem to counter the idea that if you ain't rich, you ain't happy. We thank Byron Hill and Wayne Tester for penning it and hope y'all enjoy.

BUBBA SHOT - "Like The Rain"

Clint Black is an institution. And a 90's country music God. But he is also somehow under the radar. The exception to every rule about fame, Black is a household name but also an underplayed performer. "Like The Rain" in 1996 is the first single from Black's Greatest Hits compilation. It was his tenth number one hit, and a doozy at that.

BUBBA SHOT: "Did I Shave My Legs For This?"

Deana Carter came out in 1997 throwing nothing but heaters - number one hits, the legendary "Strawberry Wine" (which we've covered), and many staples on country radio. But the title track from her debut "Did I Shave My Legs For This?" is what solidified her as a forerunner of the "girl power" movement's foray into Country Music. What better way to wrap up women's history month than with the incomparable country hit that asks the ever present question for most straight women: men - why even bother? We are joined today by musician (and coincidentally wife of Drew) Lucy Lightning. A clip of her single, dropping April 22, plays at the end. Follow Lucy on instagram and YouTube!

Mar 30, 20221h 4m

BUBBA SHOT: "No One Else On Earth" by Wynonna

Wynonna Judd is country music royalty. It is rare that someone's career can span not just multiple decades, but multiple acts. Her inimitable voice and well earned unique style are both on display on the bluesy "No One Else On Earth," a huge hit in 1992. The song went to number 1, and was three straight for the newly solo singer, cementing her as an act that didn't need to be a part of a duo or group. We have a lot of fun on this one talking country music history, rap (of course), and giving a dramatic reading (from Cho) of Tushar's rating. Also, we forgot to circle back but the actor Wynonna's career arc is most like is Drew Barrymore.

#264 - The Information Super Highway! + Russia & Cheeseburgers Vs. Nachos

Hotdogs!Go to WellREDcomedy.com for tickets to shows!Did you know Trae and Corey have a new podcast coming out? Well, they do! BUBBA SHOT: "Man! I Fell Like A Woman!"

Wanna hear four straight dudes talk about the 90s country drag, trans, and female anthem? Of course you do! Shania Twain's 1997 global phenomenon of a song "Man! I Feel Like A Woman!" capitalized on Twain's crossover pop success and made the singer and bonafide superstar. We discuss the song's undeniability, the wild history of it's writers (Shania and her ex), and have some "fun" with a listener poll!

Mar 16, 20221h 4m

BUBBA SHOT: "Independence Day" by Martina McBride

For Women's History Month we will be doing four straight weeks of ladies. To kick things off we have one of our all time favorite country music songs. "Independence Day" by Martina McBride. Written by Gretchen Parsons, this gut wrenching tale of a family ripped apart by violence and alcoholism doubles as a take down of America's treatment of women. Warning: this song is not light hearted and the topics of domestic abuse and violence do come up.

BUBBA SHOT: Seminole Wind

John Anderson is a singular figure in 90s country - already a throwback and seemingly on his way out the door, he revived his career with a hot album in 1992. The title track of that album was a song unlike any other Anderson had recorded. We dive into "Seminole Wind" and the history of Florida Natives.

BUBBA SHOT 4 WEEKS STRAIT: "I Can Still Make Cheyenne"

oday's episode starts off with an exciting bow on a 6 year argument over what is the best George Strait song (and perhaps Rodeo city) of all time - Cheyenne or Amirillo. Covering a great cowboy song always reminds us of life on the road as a comedian. Past loves, lives, and losses are always remembered when we sing along with the plight of rodeo men. There are perhaps some equals but none better at this sub genre of song than Mr. Strait. Today's episode is a good one.

BUBBA SHOT THE PODCAST: "Check Yes Or No"

We continue our nationally awarded limited series "Four Weeks Strait" and cover what many consider to be George Strait's signature hit. Sweet, romantic, general enough to be beloved by all but just specific enough to be called a country classic, "Check Yes Or No" was a nostalgic masterpiece. But we ask, was it missing something? Does it make sense for 3rd graders to be passing notes? Were Trae and Tushar nerdy losers? Listen along with us, and let's find out.

wellRED Presents: Bubba Shot the Podcast - "Time Marches On" by Tracy Lawerence

Look, time don't hit. It's confusing, scary, and inevitable. You never have enough of it. You got in on your hands but never on your side. It's mysterious, annoying, and seemingly never ending. It being the New Year and all, we figured we'd offer up 90's country's best attempt at capturing this via the life of one very messed up family in Tracy Lawrence's 1996 hit "Time Marches On." Written by the indomitable Bobby Braddock, this song, and episode, are amazing. Enjoy it.

wellRED Presents: Bubba - STRAWBERRY WINE

Deana Carter's seminal hit "Strawberry Wine" is a whole a** mood. Your sister loved it. Your friends loved it. Your momma loves it a little too much if we are being honest - why does she hit that high note with a tear in her eye? The song is beloved and wonderful. But of course, we are us- so we have to also get into the potentially darker side of the song. Now don't worry, we make up for potentially ruining your favorite piece of young -ove nostalgia by making Drew's wife Andi embarrassingly relive her own high school romances. Y'all, we are extremely into our own batch of strawberry wine on this episode, so bear with us. Enjoy and Happy New Year.
