Ep 117Jenna’s Journey: From Diet Cycles to Sustainable Strength

EP117: Jenna’s Journey: From Diet Cycles to Sustainable Strength In this episode of the Weight Loss Warrior podcast, I had the pleasure of talking with Jenna Jaeger from Milton Keynes, a wife and mother of two, who has found a sustainable approach to health and fitness that goes beyond the traditional diet mindset. Jenna shared how she broke free from the cycle of restrictive dieting and discovered a balanced way of living that focuses on strength, nourishment, and self-empowerment. We kicked off the episode with Jenna introducing herself and sharing her background. At 44 years old, she has spent years cycling through various diets, only to find herself stuck in a pattern of weight loss followed by weight gain. Jenna described how these diets often left her feeling restricted, leading to cycles of binge eating and guilt. A pivotal moment for Jenna came when she started following fitness influencers on Instagram, noticing how they nourished their bodies and maintained strong, healthy physiques. Inspired by their approach, Jenna decided to shift her focus from just losing weight to building strength and fueling her body with nutritious foods. She joined a gym and started working with a trainer who provided her with tailored exercise plans and a nutrition guide. Jenna emphasized the importance of setting small, realistic goals and not feeling restricted by diets. Instead of focusing solely on the scale, she began to prioritize how she felt—both mentally and physically. Jenna shared how tracking her calorie intake and hitting her protein goals allowed her to enjoy food without guilt, making her new lifestyle sustainable and enjoyable. One of the most insightful parts of our conversation was Jenna’s realization that her confidence grew as she focused more on strength and health rather than just weight loss. This shift in mindset not only helped her achieve her physical goals but also positively impacted other areas of her life. As we wrapped up, Jenna offered advice for anyone starting their weight loss journey: set small goals, avoid restrictions, and find an exercise routine you enjoy. She stressed that focusing on what you can do, rather than what you can’t, is key to long-term success. Ep 116Angela's Transformation: From Dieting Cycles to Sustainable Health

E

EP116: Angela's Transformation: From Dieting Cycles to Sustainable Health In this episode of the Weight Loss Warrior podcast, I had the pleasure of speaking with Angela, a remarkable woman from Birmingham, UK, who has experienced a profound transformation in her health and mindset. Angela shares her journey from a lifetime of dieting and weight loss programs to finally finding a sustainable approach that not only helped her lose weight but also improved her overall health and well-being. The episode begins with Angela introducing herself and reflecting on her lifelong struggle with weight. She described how she has always been overweight, from being a chubby baby to an overweight adult. Growing up in a Caribbean household, Angela developed a deep love for the rich and flavorful foods of her culture, which included a lot of starchy and fried foods. This cultural influence, combined with the constant negative feedback she received about her weight from family, teachers, and the medical profession, led to a complicated relationship with food. Angela shared that she began rebelling with food at a young age, using it as a form of control when she felt powerless in other areas of her life. This behavior continued into adulthood, where she found herself in a cycle of joining various weight loss programs, losing some weight, and then gaining it all back. Despite trying numerous diets and programs over the years, including Weight Watchers, Slimming World, and Keto, Angela’s weight continued to increase, and she developed several serious health conditions, including lupus, type 2 diabetes, and fibromyalgia. The turning point for Angela came at Christmas 2019, when she found herself unable to get out of the sofa due to her weight and health issues. Realizing something had to change, she decided to give Weight Watchers one final try in January 2020. While she did lose weight, she found the focus on tracking and the scales to be restrictive and unsustainable. In August 2022, Angela had an epiphany: she realized that her cultural foods were missing from her diet, and the constant tracking was not working for her. She decided to put away the scales and stop obsessing over numbers. Instead, Angela focused on healthy habits, portion control using her hands as a guide, and enjoying her food by cooking whole foods from scratch. This shift in mindset, from focusing on weight loss to improving her health, was transformative. Over time, she lost 130 pounds and improved her overall health, all while enjoying her cultural foods without guilt. Angela emphasized the importance of self-belief, changing the narrative in her head from negative to positive, and learning to trust herself and her body. She now focuses on eating for health rather than just weight loss and has developed a sustainable lifestyle that allows her to enjoy food while maintaining her health. Ep 112Rose's Journey: From Anxiety to Empowerment

EP 115: Rose's Journey: From Anxiety to Empowerment In this episode of the Weight Loss Warrior podcast, I had the pleasure of speaking with Rose, an inspiring woman from Toronto, Canada. Rose shares her remarkable journey of weight loss, mental health struggles, and finding balance. She talks about how she overcame severe anxiety and transformed her life through small, consistent changes, ultimately leading to a healthier, happier lifestyle. Rose is a 50-year-old mother of two from Toronto, soon to be celebrating her 20th wedding anniversary. I hear how she has worked with children with special needs and has dedicated herself to living her best life, both mentally and physically. Despite her current positive outlook, Rose's journey was filled with challenges, particularly surrounding her weight and mental health. Rose recounted her early years, highlighting how she was active and healthy as a child but started gaining weight during high school. The attention she received as she developed physically led her to seek comfort in food, and she began to eat more to avoid that attention. This pattern of emotional eating continued into adulthood, leading to cycles of weight loss and gain. A pivotal moment came when Rose's grandmother passed away at 44, prompting Rose to reflect on her own health as she approached that age. Determined to make lasting changes, she realized that weight loss had to be a lifelong commitment rather than a quick fix. This epiphany led her to join a weight loss program and successfully lose weight, although she initially did so through restrictive methods. Rose discussed the severe anxiety she experienced a few years ago, which at one point left her unable to leave the house. With support from her coach, she began taking small steps to manage her anxiety, starting with five-minute walks outside. These walks gradually increased in duration, helping her regain confidence and control over her mental health. She emphasized the importance of small, consistent actions in making significant life changes. We talked about Rose's transition from restrictive eating to a more balanced and sustainable approach. She no longer deprives herself of foods she loves but instead focuses on portion control and making healthier choices. Rose also shared her strategies for maintaining her weight loss, such as meal prepping and incorporating a variety of nutritious foods into her diet. A key highlight of our conversation was Rose's perspective on balance and enjoyment. She shared anecdotes from her travels, where she enjoyed local foods without guilt and managed to stay active. For example, during a trip to Chicago, she allowed herself to indulge in deep-dish pizza and a Gordon Ramsay burger but balanced it with healthy choices and plenty of walking. Rose also spoke about her recent shift from Weight Watchers to calorie counting, finding it more freeing and effective for maintaining her weight. She stressed the importance of viewing the scale as data rather than a measure of success or failure. This mindset shift has been crucial in her continued journey towards health and well-being. In closing, Rose offered valuable advice for listeners: stay consistent, set small, achievable goals, and step out of your comfort zone. She emphasized that the journey to health is lifelong and should be enjoyable, urging listeners not to compare themselves to others but to focus on their unique paths. Ep 113Priti’s path: From secret eater to healthy snack advocate

E

EP113: Priti’s path: From secret eater to healthy snack advocate In this episode of the Weight Loss Warrior podcast, I had the pleasure of speaking with Priti, a mother from Milton Keynes and the founder of A Little Big Kid, a business dedicated to providing healthy, convenient snacks for children. Priti shared her journey from being a secret snacker to becoming an advocate for healthy eating, particularly for children. Her story is one of personal growth, self-education, and the drive to create positive change in her life and the lives of others. Priti has navigated the complexities of managing her weight and building a healthy relationship with food. Her journey began at a young age when she developed the habit of snacking in secret. Growing up in an environment where snacks were restricted, Priti often found herself hiding in the pantry to satisfy her hunger. As she transitioned into adulthood, Priti's weight fluctuated significantly, ranging from a size 8 to a size 16. This constant yo-yo dieting took a toll on her mental health, leading to peaks of motivation followed by lows of disappointment when the weight returned. It wasn't until she became pregnant with her first child that Priti had a turning point. Determined to provide the best nutrition for her baby, she embarked on a journey of self-education, completing a child nutrition diploma. Through this education, Priti learned about the importance of balanced nutrition and the detrimental effects of restrictive diets. She started to understand the root causes of her unhealthy relationship with food and made significant changes to her approach. This newfound knowledge not only benefited her own health but also inspired her to create A Little Big Kid, a business providing healthy snack boxes for children. Priti explained that her business addresses the gap in the market for convenient, nutritious snacks for kids. The snack boxes are designed to be a healthy alternative to the typical sugary and processed snacks available, offering parents an easy way to ensure their children have access to nutritious options on the go. The boxes are subscription-based and include a variety of snacks, all selected for their nutritional value and suitability for children. Priti emphasised that understanding nutrition and developing a healthy relationship with food are crucial for both children and adults. She shared her insights on the role of parents in guiding their children's eating habits and the challenges they face in a society that often promotes unhealthy food choices. As we wrapped up the episode, Priti shared her advice for listeners: don't be too hard on yourself and seek knowledge and support. She stressed the importance of being kind to oneself and recognizing that change is a gradual process. Ep 112Hollie Rose: Resilience, Transformation, and New Beginnings

EP112: Hollie Rose: Resilience, Transformation, and New Beginnings In this latest episode of the Weight Loss Warrior podcast, I welcomed back Holli, who shared her incredible weight loss journey and the significant changes she has experienced since her last appearance in April 2023. Hollie, now 33, detailed her struggles with weight from a young age, her battles with emotional eating, and the impact of losing her mother unexpectedly. Her story is one of resilience, transformation, and the pursuit of a healthier, happier life. We began by catching up on what Holly has been up to since her last appearance on the podcast. Hollie shared that she started her weight loss journey just before her 31st birthday, after struggling with her weight throughout her life. Growing up, Hollie was aware of being the "chubby short girl" in a toxic school environment. Her unhealthy relationship with food, marked by emotional and secret eating, contributed to her weight gain. A pivotal moment in Hollie's life was the sudden passing of her mother when Holly was 22. This loss triggered significant emotional turmoil, and Hollie found herself using food as a coping mechanism. Despite completing her teacher training, getting engaged, married, and having a daughter, Hollie hadn't dealt with her grief head-on. The birth of her daughter in 2017 brought her emotional eating and grief to the forefront, leading to a significant weight gain. Hollie reached a breaking point when she was denied affordable life insurance due to her weight, prompting her to take action. She found the One to One diet and decided to give it a try. Starting in June 2022, Hollie followed the plan and lost six stone in six months. The structured nature of the plan helped her take control of her eating habits, providing the mental space she needed to focus on her health. We discussed the misconceptions about the One to One diet, often criticized for the lack of real food and ultra low calories. Hollie explained that the plan offers various steps, from total meal replacements to incorporating conventional food, and emphasizes the importance of finding a consultant who understands your journey. The personalized support and gradual reintroduction of food helped Hollie develop a healthier relationship with eating and maintain her weight loss. Hollie also shared her recent experience with skin removal surgery, which she decided to undergo to fully appreciate the results of her hard work. The surgery, which included a tummy tuck, muscle repair, liposuction, and a breast reduction and lift, was a significant step in her journey towards body confidence and acceptance. Hollie emphasized that this decision was personal and about reaping the rewards of her weight loss. One of the highlights of our conversation was Hollie's recognition in the One to One annual awards. She and her consultant Rachel were the only virtual pair shortlisted for the award, highlighting the strong relationship they built despite not meeting face-to-face. Hollie's success and the support she received from Rachel were pivotal in her journey, and winning the award was a testament to their dedication and hard work. As we wrapped up the episode, Holly reflected on the impact of her journey on her daughter and the importance of setting a positive example. She shared a heartwarming story about a client who lost weight under her guidance and was able to conceive naturally after being told to lose weight for fertility treatment. This success story was a beautiful testament to the life-changing impact Hollie has had on others. Ep 111Louie's Limitless Journey

E

EP111: Louie's Limitless Journey In this episode of the Weight Loss Warrior podcast, I had the pleasure of talking with Louie, also known as Limitless Louie, about his inspiring journey. Louie, originally from Tasmania, Australia, has been living in the UK for nearly 20 years. His story is one of resilience, transformation, and self-discovery. We explored his journey from struggling with weight to finding a healthier, happier version of himself, while also delving into the deeper aspects of self-acceptance and mental health. We talk about his struggles with weight from a young age. He was always the "chubby kid" and faced challenges that many can relate to, such as not wanting to take his shirt off in public or participate in activities that might draw attention to his weight. A pivotal moment in Louie's journey was when he purchased a pair of expensive trousers from a brand called Dante. Unable to fit into them, he was determined to change his lifestyle. This led him to a period of intense fitness and strict dieting, which, although effective in terms of weight loss, became an unhealthy obsession. He realised that being thin did not equate to being happy and that his mental and physical health were suffering. Four years ago, Louie made significant changes by leaving an unfulfilling job and pursuing a career in nursing, which he finds deeply rewarding. He emphasised the importance of helping others and how this has become a central part of his life and his journey towards self-improvement. Louie shared his approach to weight loss now, which is more balanced and sustainable. He no longer focuses on the numbers on the scale but rather on how he feels and how his body functions. One of the highlights of our conversation was Louie's insight into mental health and the importance of self-acceptance. He discussed how he manages his mental health by recognizing and allowing himself to have bad days, but not letting those days define him. His advice to others struggling with weight or mental health issues was heartfelt and practical: find what works for you, enjoy the process, and don't let negative thoughts take over. If you don't already follow Louie on Instagram, his account is full of inspiriation and a lot of funny content. Ep 110Jonathan's Ongoing Transformation: More Than Just Weight Loss

E

EP110: Jonathan's Ongoing Transformation: More Than Just Weight Loss In this latest episode of the Weight Loss Warrior podcast, I welcome back Jonathan "Half the Man," who previously shared his incredible weight loss journey. Jonathan joined us again to provide updates on his progress and the challenges he's faced since his last appearance. We kicked off the episode by catching up on what Jonathan has been up to since we last spoke in September. Jonathan, who started his weight loss journey at 40 stone, has now reached an impressive 16.5 stone. He recounted his initial steps toward weight loss, starting in January 2021, and how an accidental message to a coach led to life-changing support and guidance. Jonathan's journey hasn't been linear, and he openly discussed the ups and downs he has faced. One significant milestone was his public speaking event, where he emotionally shared his story in front of an audience, realising the immense progress he had made. This moment of recognition and support was both overwhelming and affirming for him. A major topic of our conversation was Jonathan's recent surgery to remove excess skin, a common issue for those who have lost a significant amount of weight. He described the 360 surgery procedure, which involved removing skin from both his front and back, and the physical and mental challenges of recovery. Despite the difficulties, Jonathan has maintained his weight and is steadily regaining his strength and fitness. Jonathan shared his strategies for maintaining weight loss, emphasizing the importance of consistency and realistic goal setting. He detailed his approach to dieting, balancing strict weekdays with more flexible weekends, and how this sustainable method has helped him stay on track. We also discussed the common pitfalls of weight loss journeys, such as the pressure to be perfect and the unrealistic expectations set by social media. One of the most insightful parts of our conversation was Jonathan's perspective on having bad days. He stressed the importance of accepting that bad days will happen and the key is to get back on track the next day without dwelling on mistakes. This mindset has been crucial in his continued success. As we wrapped up the episode, Jonathan talked about his next goal: preparing for a photoshoot to showcase his transformation. This goal isn't just for himself but to inspire others by demonstrating what is possible with dedication and hard work. We began the episode with a warm welcome to Nick, where he shared some insights into his busy life in Blackpool. Balancing responsibilities as a PT, a duty manager at a gym, and a parent, Nick’s story is one of determination and resilience. This diagnosis had a profound impact on his mental health and motivated him to change his lifestyle for the sake of his family. He highlighted the challenges of balancing these efforts with the demands of family life and work. We delved deep into the connection between mental health and physical health. Nick stressed the importance of addressing mental health alongside physical health and shared his struggles with body dysmorphia. From being a retail team leader to pursuing a career in personal training, Nick’s journey was fueled by the support of his partner and his passion for helping others achieve their fitness goals. Ep 104The impact of changing your mindset - Gen's Journey as a coaching client

EP104: The impact of changing your mindset - Gen's Journey as a coaching client I am really excited to share this with you Warrior Tribe and hope you find it helpful. My special guest today is Gen who recently completed a 12 week coaching program with me and was happy to share her experience with you all. We dive into the challenges that Gen had faced which like so many of us involved years of struggling with being overweight and dieting. When Gen and I began speaking her goals were clear however her habits, reliance on motivation and past experience created a difficult environment for the ultimate objective to be reached. This episode is important for me to share because I feel there are so many people who listen to the show and experience the same struggle as Gen explains, not making any meaningful changes between attempts, hoping for a different outcome and having to manage the feeling of failure when things don't work out. I say that with compassion as someone who spent years going through the same cycle until learning the benefits of focusing on mindset. Gen shares how coaching has allowed her to approach weight loss from a different angle, focusing on the behaviours and thinking in a different way with regards to being on a diet. We talk about how there is so much emphasis and pressure attached to whether the scale goes up or down, placing our judgement and self worth on this single factor whereas the truth is there is so much more you can measure in order to be successful. One key difference is that Gen now lives with a level of confidence and self-esteem that has increased dramatically since we began working together. You can hear in her voice that there is no longer the fear to experience social events or dinners out like before, and her excitement for the journey she on can offer encouragement to anyone else wanting the same. As mentioned on the episode, I am offering a completely free coaching session to all listeners who are curious to find out if having a mentor may will help. I have found this is a great way for you as a potential client to see if this is a good fit for you, as well as the opportunity for me to demonstrate the deep power and impact coaching can have. Ep 98Change, Accept or both - Coaching Special Part 1 - Change

E

EP98 - Change, Accept or both - Part 1/3 Each month I like to record an episode that offers some insight from a coaching perspective to help people with the mindset approach to weight loss. This episode is part 1 of 3, exploring the sometimes uncomfortable truth that to lose weight successfully, change is needed. This episode is also somewhat of a tribute to a friend I lost recently. George Gilbey was known by many in the UK for appearing on Gogglebox with his mum and stepdad Linda and Pete, as well as reaching the final of Celebrity Big Brother. To me, he was a school mate who during my teens and early adulthood was a massive part of my life. His recent passing has stirred up a number of emotions for me including the harsh truth that our time on this earth is limited. Today, I want to challenge you to be courageous at looking why you haven't been successful in past attempts to lose weight or become healthier, and use those experiences as lessons to help you achieve your goals in the future. I realise weight loss can be hard with so many unhelpful habits likely to be engrained into your daily routine, and I hope this episode provokes some thinking to what is possible if you are willing to become comfortable with the uncomfortable journey of change. The best part about this journey is that you are NOT ALONE. As I explain in the episode, I would like to offer each of you a completely free opportunity for us to have a chat in which I will listen to where you struggle and offer my ideas and suggestions to begin on the right path to success. For some of you, my 12 week coaching program may be the perfect next step, for others no. Either way, I will do my absolute best to support you and help get you started during your free coaching call. To get more details, simply send an email to [email protected] or DM me on my instagram @weightlosswarriorpodcast Rest easy George, your friendship over the years and has given me a lifetime of laughs and great memories. Ep 87Losing 355lbs after bariatric surgery - Eric's weight loss journey

EP87 - Losing 355lbs after bariatric surgery - Eric's weight loss journey Today’s inspiring Weight Loss Warrior is educator, author and all round nice guy, Eric Johnson from Michigan. Eric had spent the majority of his life overweight, but when he found himself out of work and unable to find a new employer, food became his full time comfort and led to him tipping the scales at 550lbs (250kg). Realising that he had no real quality of life and in extreme pain from the pressure being put on his joints, Eric knew something had to change or he simply wouldn't survive many more years. This is when Eric began seeking support, and decided to change his life. Eric had bariatric surgery, a procedure that has changes the size of the stomach to control the amount of food that can be eaten. It can have incredible results, but is by no means the easy route some believe it to be. During our conversation, Eric shares his journey through surgery and talks about the almost immediate impact this had on his mindset, feeling "lighter" as he woke up from the operation despite weighing exactly the same at this stage. This was particularly interesting because the way we think plays such an important part of a weight loss journey. Eric went on to have both knees replaced and one hip, giving him much more mobility and combined with his weight loss, a completely new outlook on life. He now enjoys taking in part in activities instead of driving his wife to them and watching from the car park. We also talk about his love for being active and going to the gym. Another exciting part of this transformation is that Eric was inspired to write about his journey and shares the full story in his book, The "Weight" Is Over. Ep 85How to lose weight as a married couple - Leanne and James

EP85: How to lose weight as a married couple - Leanne and James Today I welcome the lovely James & Leanne to share their weight loss journey and how it has enabled them to become a healthy and happy family. This is our second episode featuring a couple and I am sure there are many listeners who like the idea of losing weight with their partner. It can provide a great pillar of support and encouragement, as well as create a certain level of competitiveness as James shares today. Leanne joined Slimming World after years of feeling unhappy with her weight and not placing herself as a priority. We talk about how becoming a parent can often mean you place yourself lower down on the list of importance and that with time you almost fail to recognise yourself as the person you once were. The success and achievement that Leanne began to experience encouraged James to take action too. He shares how making small changes to his day to day lifestyle provided dramatic results. My mum's journey of weight loss - Christmas Special

EP84 - My mum's journey of weight loss - Christmas Special Since starting the podcast there has been one very special person I have wanted to have as a guest on the show. It's the same person who inspired the Weight Loss Warrior podcast and someone extremely important to me. Today I am proud and excited to introduce Pat Radley, my mum. The timing couldn't be any better. Last night I received a message to say that final 1 pound had gone and my mum was officially at target. After years of ups and downs, my mum has finally reached her goal and I couldn't be happier for her. For my mum, her challenges with her weight started after I was born. As a teenager and young adult she had been very active working in a hair salon and maintaining a slim figure, however after finding herself at home with a newborn baby, things became difficult. We talk about how having 3 children 4 years apart each time made weight loss a struggle, and how secret eating, lack of exercise and mental health played a part in my mums battle to keep her weight under control. She tried many diets over the years, some of which were successful in the short term but unsustainable so eventually failed when a more normal approach to eating resumed. We talk about how important being educated about nutrition is and that when you feel low and unable to reach your goal, it just feels easier seeking comfort being sat with a biscuit tin in front of the tele than facing the reality of what is making you unhappy. I had previously shared that it was my mum's admittence of feeling lonely between group weigh in sessions that inspired me to look for a way to help others get support on their journey and led to me creating the WLW Podcast. I felt a deep sense of pride being able to share the result of this with her and have the opportunity to celebrate her success and dedication to her own transformation. This episode has a lot of meaning attached to it for me, and I hope you enjoy it too. Thanks to my mum for allowing me to record and share this. Unfortunately she doesn't have Instagram yet so I can't tell you to follow her - but I'm sure she will be back on the show in the very near future to share how things are going. Ep 83What to do when your diet fails

EP83 - What to do when your diet fails Today I am hosting another special episode in which I delve into the mindset side of weight loss. This week I talk about what you can do to create success if this year has not gone well for you, and why it's so important to not give up. The truth is that you will know if 2023 has been the year you achieved your weight loss goals or not. It doesn't have to mean to completed your journey and reached your target, but did you make the progress you wanted to? If not, then this episode may help you to close the door on what could possibly be a feeling of failure, and an opportunity to look at the reasons it didn't go as well as you would have liked. I look at some strategies for understanding where it went wrong, and then things you can do to create a successful journey for yourself. If you have any questions, would like to know more about my coaching or brand new online course "The Click", send me a DM on Instagram or email! Ep 82The life changing benefits of overcoming sugar addiction - Nicky's Story

E

EP82: The life changing benefits of overcoming sugar addiction - Nicky's Story **EPISODE CONTAINS SWEARING** Today I welcome the "No BS, life coach for working mums who want CALM instead of CHAOS", also known as Nicky Bevan to be my special guest on the Weight Loss Warrior Podcast. After receiving a lot of positive feedback from a few weeks ago in sharing a slightly different episode focusing on improving mindset, I am excited to be sharing our conversation with you all. Nicky has her own journey to share in which she lost 2 stone and overcame her addiction to sugar. On a weight loss journey we often focus so much on the calories, but not so much on the impact consuming sugar can have on our results. Not only did this change Nicky's life in terms of her health, it has become part of a much bigger journey that includes becoming a coach and now helping others to reach the same success as she has. Make sure you go and give Nicky a follow where she shares advice and support for anyone looking to make positive changes in their own life. Liv embarked on her weight loss journey earlier this year and has lost over 6 stone in that time. It's an incredible achievement and I am happy to welcome her to share her story. Liv is a mum of twin girls and that obviously keeps her extremely busy, but everything felt harder due to her weight. As if this wasn't enough, Liv shares the concerns of being a bad role model as her daughters grew up. CLICK HERE TO GET YOUR WEBINAR SEAT NOW Today's special guest is none other than The Bariatric Cockney himself, Martin, who has lost an incredible 16 stone (224lbs) since undergoing weight loss surgery in February 2022. I haven't had many guests from the bariatric community on the show so far, so it's always extremely interesting and insightful to learn more about this method of losing weight. I think for many who have no first hand experience with weight loss surgery (WLS), it can be viewed as an "easy" way to lose weight. This couldn't be further from the truth, and today Martin shares the reality of this procedure. I learn how Martin's life as a lorry driver created health issues for him, which combined with being overweight lead to serious risks. He said himself that if he hadn't of taken action when he did, he doubts he would be here today. We talk about the challenges being overweight can create, and how mental health can be impacted. Martin is open and honest about his struggles and it was extremely inspiring to hear how he far he has come in the last two years. Ep 79How determination can change your life - Josie's journey

E

EP 79 - How determination can change your life - Josie's journey ** IMPORTANT: This episode contains swearing - just for anyone who usually has their children around when listening! ** Today I am joined by the amazing Josie Marsden from Sydney, Australia. Josie transformed her life after some extremely difficult years as a young adult. After fleeing with her young daughter from an abusive relationship at age 20, Josie made a promise not to let anyone treat her in the same way again. The one struggle that continued throughout the healing process from such a traumatic experience was Josie's health. Josie found herself building the life she wanted for herself and her daughter, but unable to do so at a healthy weight. She began taking extreme measures, leading to disordered eating and putting her health at serious risk. Keen to make changes but overwhelmed from so much information being shared online offering the "best" weight loss methods and "must follow" diet plans, Josie began educating herself to learn exactly how she could lead a healthy and balanced life. This was the turning point for Josie and was the beginning of a transformation that would not only create a foundation for a healthy mind and body, but also the start of a career in nutrition, fitness and coaching. Josie is proof that no matter what happens in life, you always have an opportunity to make changes and create a better life for yourself. It may not be easy, in fact sometimes it can feel completely impossible but with some determination and support, you can achieve anything you would like. Josie follows a Flexible food approach to her diet, which personally I think ticks all the boxes in terms of finding balance, enjoying food without depriving yourself or feeling restricted and learning how you food needs to be fuelled at the same time. If you want to find out more about Josie, her life and the work she now does helping others as a coach, her Instagram is: @josiesflexiblefoods Thanks to Josie for being a great guest and I hope to welcome her back to the Weight Loss Warrior Podcast soon! Ep 72Maintaining a 13 Stone weight loss when life "happens" - Catch up with Steve

EP72: Maintaining a 13 Stone weight loss when life "happens" - Catch up with Steve ** Please Note this episode contains a conversation discussing cancer ** Today I welcome Steve back to the WLW Podcast to talk about how he has continued to maintain his weight loss and how he navigates the challenges everyday life can throw at us. For anyone who has been with WLW since the beginning or has delved back to the earliest episodes, you will no doubt recognise Steve's Brummie accent. He was the star guest of episode number 2 (I'd be lying if I said I hadn't been referring to him as a "number 2" since then) and I welcome him back to hear what has been happening in his life since we aired his episode. It hasn't been the easiest year for Steve and I am full of admiration for the way he continues to find positives, help others and focus on moving forward. His resilience and strength is incredible and he is a true inspiration in every sense of the word. Something exciting we do discuss later in the episode is an amazing event taking place in July 2024 to raise money for charity. Steve is organising a group hike up Snowdon in Wales and EVERYONE is invited to join. The charity is called FAMILY FUND and supports families raising disabled, seriously ill children and young people who require financial help in order to cater to normal everyday things so many of us take for granted. Their main objective is: Giving grants to families on a low income for items they may not otherwise be able to afford. For example family breaks, digital equipment, white goods, clothing, bedding, furniture and play equipment. Offering services to help parents and carers to achieve the outcomes they want for their child and family. This includes where to go for support with money, benefits and budget planning, information on mental health and wellbeing. And practical workshops to help people get online and use digital tools. Providing ways for families to share their experiences, so they can influence lasting change on issues that matter to them. The challenge is open to anyone wanting to take part, regardless of whether you have completed a weight loss journey, are currently on one or haven't yet started (This could be a great goal to walk towards!). It doesn't matter which plan you follow or who you know, this event is open to all and is a great opportunity to meet others with a similar mindset and objective. If you would like more information, please send me an email: [email protected] Thanks to Steve (@its.steveslife on Instagram) for joining me today, as always it was an absolute pleasure speaking to him and I look forward to meeting him in Wales next year! Ep 71Losing 8 stone and discovering confidence - Liv's story

EP71 - Losing 8 stone and discovering confidence - Liv's story Today I welcome the amazing Liv to tell her story so far and how already she has benefited so much from changing her life. When Liv found herself in excruciating pain and was given a Gall Stone diagnosis, her hopes of being booked in for surgery to solve her worries evaporated when she was turned away from the hospital due to her weight. This triggered several emotions for Liv but ultimately gave her the courage to begin her weight loss journey. In this episode Liv explains the importance of changing your lifestyle, but in a way that is manageable for you. She advises anyone wanting to improve themselves to go at their own pace, not allowing others to push you into unrealistic objectives. At the beginning of her transformation, Liv found 5 minutes of walking to be her limit however she set out in competition against herself, aiming to remain consistent and improve over time. During her journey so far, Liv has lost over 8 stone by tracking her calories and ensuring she remained in a calorie deficit. This allowed her to still eat without restricting certain food items, providing she stayed within her calorie limit for the day. We also talk about plateaus, and how recently Liv is facing the challenge of setting new goals to ensure her progress continues. This is something I can relate to and am sure many of you listening will also. If you would like to follow Liv's progress and support her on her journey to lose the weight she needs to have surgery, her Instagram account is: @caloriecountingwith_liv You can also find Liv along with many other Weight Loss Warriors in our WLW Tribe group on Facebook. Ep 70Wanting to be a healthy, happy mum - Claire's Weight Loss Success Story

EP70 - Wanting to be a healthy, happy mum - Claire's Weight Loss Success Story When Claire said she had been worried about being an embarrassment to her son, I could hear the worry in her voice at the prospect of it being true if she hadn't of decided to change her life. My special guest today found herself rationalising her declining health and weight gain after having a beautiful baby just before lockdown. Take-aways became a regular habit, needing clothes 2 sizes bigger and worsening Asthma meant that Claire had started on a path that was leading her to life of low self confidence and poor health. Like many of my guests, Claire reached a point where she was concerned for her future and fed up with being overweight. It was impacting her self esteem and ability to do the normal daily activities a young mum would need to be doing. After phoning her mum for support. Claire discovered Slimming World and attended her first session. "Being in the group just felt like a nice, big, warm hug." Claire told me, smiling into the microphone as she remembered that first day. From there she went on to lose an incredible 3 stone and reclaimed her heath and self confidence. Claire shares other areas in which her life has improved including a new found love for fitness. I hear about "Clubbercise" which includes glow sticks, amazing music and dancing your way to a healthier body. Another major success in Claire's journey has been her decision to help others and become a Slimming World Consultant. In our conversation I hear about the process of Claire taking this step, encouraged by her Consultant Jane because she felt Claire would be a great leader to help others. You can read more about Claire's journey and see everything she is up to on her Instagram. Click here to follow her account - @claires_losingit.
