Chips zijn prominent aanwezig in ons dagelijkse leven, vaak zonder dat we het beseffen.
Het zit in je smartphone, je laptop, maar ook in je autosleutels of in elk elektronisch toestelletje. En het zijn die chips die voor de gigantische rekenkracht zorgen achter AI.
Het is een kleine stukje silicium waarop elektronische schakelingen zitten. Op 1 chip passen 50 milljard schakelaartjes. Marian Verhelst is professor micro-elektronica aan de KU Leuven.
