Funding for autonomous driving startups has significantly increased, with the sector raising nearly $2.7 billion since May 1st, 2024, after raising less than $800 million in the first four months of the year. Notable deals include Wayve's $1.05 billion round led by SoftBank, General Motors' $850 million investment in Cruise, and Waabi's $200 million secured last week. This surge in funding positions the industry for its best year since 2021, with nearly $3.5 billion raised so far, potentially surpassing the $5.7 billion in 2023 and $5.9 billion in 2022.
