The SoftBank Vision Fund 2 recently resumed investments after a period of inactivity since late 2023. It co-led a $120 million funding round for cybersecurity startup Cybereason, marking its return to the investment landscape. In the last two quarters, the fund participated in 13 funding rounds, surpassing the total of 10 deals in the previous year and focusing heavily on artificial intelligence. Notable investments include funding for QuEra Computing, Helion Energy, and a $500 million round for AI startup Perplexity. By early March 2025, the fund completed at least seven investments, including a $100 million Series C for Umoja Biopharma and a $200 million Series E for TravelPerk. While the Vision Fund has re-engaged with investment activities, it does not anticipate returning to the rapid pace of 2021 due to changing market conditions. This resurgence indicates a potential shift in the venture capital landscape, providing new opportunities for startups across various sectors.
