San Francisco-based Industry Ventures has closed a $900 million fund for early-stage technology's emerging managers and companies, with plans to invest in venture and seed investors, individual startups, and buy stakes in early-stage funds from existing shareholders. Known primarily as a secondary investor, the firm has employed this hybrid investment approach since 2009. The new fund will allocate approximately 40% to emerging managers of early-stage funds, another 40% to startups usually at Series B, and the remaining 20% to buy stakes in early-stage funds from institutional investors. Industry Ventures manages over $8 billion in committed capital, with $2.3 billion dedicated specifically to early-stage hybrid funds focusing on U.S. companies and managers.
