In 1971, the writer William Peter Blatty published The Exorcist, a novel based on a true story of a child's demonic possession. This story would go on to terrify millions of people when it was adapted into the seminal 1973 film of the same name. But just what was the true story? How did it differ from the novel and film? And how was the “true” story that had been told for decades later found out to be incorrect?
