Show Notes

Design for the Art of Learning

Alec Mathewson '95 is the design curriculum lead and Fab Lab coordinator at LCC. He is an interdisciplinary artist and designer specializing in digital fabrication, critical making, and using design processes with the intent to learn. Mr. Mathewson examines the hidden spaces and accidental discoveries that emerge from creative technical practices with a particular concern for exposing the critical mindsets needed for students to learn about innovation and sustainable action. His research and creation are intended to spark dialogue about design education as a model for experiential learning in the 21st century, where creativity, curiosity, confidence, and critical thinking are concerned. He oversees the development of LCC's new Centre for Discovery, where ideas come to life through a community of practice surrounding design, technology, maker culture, and entrepreneurship.
