I’ll start off the show with Walt Disney World News, and kick it off with a sneak peek at Disney’s new web site, a new store that just opened in the Magic Kingdom, of course some news about food, including a new dining location coming to Frontierland as well as important updates to dining reservations, and more. January 8-11, 2009 marks the 26th annual Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend, where 40,000 runners will test their endurance during a number of races throughout the weekend, including a half and full marathon. But in addition to the athletes, there is expected to be an additional 40,000 people converging on the Walt Disney World Resort to cheer on family, friends, and even complete strangers. And while I’ve done shows on training and preparing for the marathon, as well as a recap from a participant’s perspective, there has been little in the way of tips and strategies for spectators. This week, I’m joined by running and cheering veteran Bill Muldowney to discuss the best ways to get the most out of the experience if you will be going down to cheer, including the best ways to get around, where you should be and when, and how to be sure you not only see your runners, but they get to see you as well. In a new Best of the Best segment, we’ll take a look at the Best Affordable Souvenir, and arguably the most Affordable Collectible in Walt Disney World. Disney dad Chuck Lionberger joins me to talk about searching for and collecting Pressed Pennies in and out of the parks. Jim Henson’s MuppetVision 3D is a landmark attraction in Walt Disney World not just for it’s groundbreaking technology, classic characters, and truly hysterical show script. It’s an attraction that begins outside the show itself and carries over into arguably one of the very best queues anywhere in the Disney parks. But beyond that, it represents the work of its creator Jim Henson, and serves as a reminder of the relatively recent marriage between the Disney and Henson companies – and a deal whose negotiations began more than a decade ago. This week, I am pleased to welcome Jim Lewis and Craig Shemin, former staff writers for the Jim Henson Company, who were instrumental in the concept, design and creation of MuppetVision 3D. We’ll discuss the creation of the attraction and so many of its priceless jokes and gags, as well as the Muppet attractions that never came to be, working with Jim Henson, and the future of the Disney and the Muppets. Steve Trover, CEO of All Star Vacation Homes joins me to answer many of your frequently asked questions, as well as looks at the pros and cons of renting a vacation home, who is might be right for and who it’s not, addresses some possible concerns, and talks about the process. It's a great primer on renting a vacation home, and you just might be surprised as to some of the reasons why it might be a viable option for you and your family. One of the most important aspects of what I do is that of giving back to others with the help of so many people through my Dream Team Project. Of course, I'm certainly not the only one, and as I’ve done in the past, this week I want to profile someone who is truly making magic, and a very big difference, in the lives of children and families that need it most. This weekend, I’m heading to Disneyland in California to compare and contrast the two parks… OK, so I’m going to Disneyland to enjoy the parks for a few days, so unfortunately this week, I’m once again recording early and won’t have the ability to cover news and rumors due to when I’m recording. Next month, Disney’s Animal Kingdom will be celebrating its 10th Anniversary, and following the success of Celebration 25, Adam Roth and his team have put together WDWCelebrations.com and have organized “A Wild Decade,” a gathering to commemorate this occasion. I’m joined by Adam and another member of the team, Jason Diffendal, to discuss the event and how you can get involved. Tim Forster, from Guide to the Magic, is back for another Top 10 with Tim, as we reveal our individual top 10 snacks to enjoy in World Showcase. Any discussion of food in Walt Disney World is fun, and in the process, we hope to introduce you to some snacks that you just may have overlooked, or never thought to try. It’s a fat-free trip around the promenade, guaranteed to leave you hungry at the end. I often get questions about some recommended reading and books that I enjoy about Walt Disney World, Disney history, etc., so this week, I bring in another guest, George Taylor from the Imaginerding blog to examine and discuss the 5 books that every Disney geek needs in their library.
