President Joe Biden's decision to drop his 2024 reelection bid comes at a difficult time for the Democratic party, and leaves an open question about who will replace him less than four months before the election.
For weeks, many Democrats had been pushing Biden to exit the race. But as the pressure mounted, so did questions about how the Democratic party would move forward without the de facto nominee.
The North Carolina Democratic National Committee (DNC) formally endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris to take the democratic nomination hours after Biden's decision. Delegates voted unanimously in favor of Harris in an emergency meeting on Sunday.
