Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools leaders approved major updates to how the district will support students experiencing homelessness and those in foster care.
Some students carry more than just a backpack to school. They also carry questions and concerns about where they’ll sleep. Now CMS is stepping in, making modifications and creating new policies for students facing difficult circumstances.
Some of the policies promise to be a steady hand for children navigating homelessness and foster care.
The polices stress the importance of immediate enrollment and providing transportation without delay, even if they don’t have records like immunizations, proof of residency or previous school transcripts.
