The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is issuing a warning to residents and visitors after a recent surge in cell phone thefts in South End. According to CMPD, thieves are targeting patrons at popular bars, restaurants, and outdoor patios — especially during peak evening hours.
Police say the thefts happen in an instant, often without the victim realizing it until it’s too late. Phones are being snatched from back pockets, open purses, and even directly from people’s hands.
