A 37-year-old woman was fatally shot in Minneapolis Wednesday morning by an ICE agent as federal immigration officials conducted a sweeping operation in the city, Minnesota officials confirmed.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said at a press conference that he was "angry" at the presence of immigration officials in the city, but promised justice for the woman whom the Minneapolis City Council identified as Renee Nicole Good.

"We collectively are going to do everything possible to get to the bottom of this, to get justice, and make sure there is an investigation that is conducted in full," he said.

Frey blamed Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials for escalating the situation in the city.

"We dreaded this moment since the early stages of this ICE presence in Minneapolis," he said. "Not only is this a concern we've had internally, but we've been talking about it. They are not here to cause safety in this city. What they are doing is not to provide safety in America. What they are doing is causing chaos and distrust. They're ripping families apart, sowing distrust, and in this case, quite literally, killing people."
