This year's indie nonfiction book of the year, according to the Chicago Writers Association, was a book from a Northwest Indiana author about hospital overcrowding. The book is Hospital Heal Thyself. It's written by veteran Chicago area health care journalist Mark Taylor. Taylor found that fixing overcrowding would improve patient care and potentially save struggling hospitals.
