The Washington Nationals, currently at a disappointing 4-8 record, have just lost their third consecutive series to the St. Louis Cardinals. Their home stand ended with a 1-5 record, allowing a total of 50 runs and ranking last in the league with a 6.06 team ERA. The bullpen is even worse, with a 6.34 ERA. Despite the struggles, the offense has been strong, ranking third in runs and home runs with a .266 average and .770 OPS. They won Mondays game with a comeback in the eighth inning, but lost Tuesdays game in extras and Wednesdays game 6-1. James Wood has been a standout, hitting two homers and driving in two runs each game. The bullpen, however, has been the main issue, with several relievers posting ERAs over 12.00. Until the bullpen improves, the Nationals offense may not be enough to save another series.
