Robert Bobby Felder, a legendary figure in Washington D.C.s music scene, passed away at 96. Known for his versatility as a trombonist, pianist, composer, arranger, bandleader, club owner, talent scout, and educator, Felders influence spanned jazz, cabaret, rhythm and blues, gospel, and go-go music. He mentored and taught countless musicians, many of whom filled his bands and gigs across the East Coast. Felders impact on the local music scene was profound, from his twenty-three years at Federal City College to his role in launching jazz programs and the Felix Grant Jazz Archive. His legacy continues to thrive through the musicians he shaped in D.C.
