In 1851 al trok de eerste carnavalstoet door de straten van Aalst. Anno 2023 is Aalst Carnaval nog altijd springlevend. Van de stoet tot de prinsverkiezing, van de Voil Jeanetten tot het Ros Balatum, van de roiteklasjen tot de ajuinworp: carnaval in Aalst is een fenomeen. Jan Moens en Jan Louies vatten dit fenomeen in een boek: 'Noig - Aalst Carnaval, vroeger en nu'.
