Rita Ortiz, a 58-year-old woman, was arrested for allegedly filing fake mechanics liens on multiple properties. Shes accused of submitting false documents under Ortiz Consulting, a company she allegedly controlled. Victims, whove never met or hired her, include homeowners in Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, and Riverside County. Ortiz, who claimed to be a real estate consultant, is not licensed by the California Department of Real Estate. The LAPD and Beverly Hills detectives are seeking more victims.
