Show Notes

A woman on British Columbias Sunshine Coast discovered a Pacific folding-door spider, a harmless relative of tarantulas, while hunting for sea glass. This spider, identified as Antrodiaetus pacificus, is the only species of its kind on the coast and is found along the Pacific coast from San Francisco to Alaska. The spider stays hidden during the day and hunts at night, snagging beetles and other prey. The discovery was confirmed by Robb Bennett, a spider researcher with the Royal BC Museum. British Columbia is home to over one thousand spider species, making it a hotspot for arachnid diversity.
