Show Notes

Richard Cherwitz, a former debate prodigy from Iowa, has been honored with the National Debate Tournaments Laurence H. Tribe Distinguished Alumni Award. After starting as an average student, debate transformed his life, leading him to a successful career in communication studies and rhetoric at the University of Texas at Austin. Cherwitz, now a professor emeritus, founded the Intellectual Entrepreneurship Consortium and has published numerous works on politics and public engagement. His colleagues praise his influence, citing his ability to teach generations how words shape beliefs, actions, and politics. After retiring in 2019, Cherwitz moved to Camas, Washington, to enjoy the scenic views of Mount Hood and the Columbia River.
