March 21st survey reports 299 salmon boats and 131 Washington bank rods on the lower Columbia River. Mainstem catches remain light, with anglers releasing most fish. Upriver, Section one near Bonneville sees 123 bank anglers land 3 Chinook. Vancouver in Section four has 32 bankers and 37 boats snag 1 Chinook and 1 steelhead. Longview in Section eight brings in 2 Chinook from banks and 1 from boats, plus steelhead action. Tributaries heat up for steelhead, with Cowlitz below I-five seeing 56 bank anglers keep 3, and 75 bankers above the bridge grab 4. Kalama River banks keep 5 steelhead, with boats adding 4 more. Battle Ground Lake and Lake Sacajawea stocked with rainbow trout earlier this week. Spring runs just starting, expect more bites as water warms.
