Saudi Arabia, the worlds top oil exporter, has significantly reduced daily production to around eight million barrels per day due to the ongoing war with Iran. The Strait of Hormuz, a crucial shipping route, has been blocked, leading Saudi producers to reroute oil through a pipeline to the Red Sea port of Yanbu. This shift, however, poses challenges as the fields mainly pump heavy and medium heavy crude, unlike the lighter oil that flows through the Yanbu line. The International Energy Agency reports that Gulf nations have lost at least ten million barrels per day in total output, potentially tightening supplies worldwide.
