Darren Bailey wins Republican primary for Illinois governor, setting up rematch with incumbent JB Pritzker in November. Bailey, a former state lawmaker from downstate Xenia, secured over fifty-two percent of the vote, defeating three opponents. Pritzker, seeking his third term, faced no challengers in the Democratic primary. Bailey lost to Pritzker by twelve and a half points in 2022. In the U.S. Senate race, Republican Don Tracy won the nomination with around forty percent against five rivals. Hell face Democrat Lieutenant Governor Juliana Stratton in the general election. Several GOP House candidates also advanced, including incumbent Mary Miller and newcomers in other districts. Despite Illinois leaning blue, these primaries keep the conversation alive for Republicans heading into fall.
