Darren Bailey, a former state lawmaker from downstate Xenia, has won the Republican primary for Illinois governor, securing a rematch with Democrat JB Pritzker in November. Bailey, who lost to Pritzker by twelve and a half points two years ago, launched his comeback after a personal tragedy and is now leading with fifty-three percent of the vote. In the U.S. Senate race, Republican Don Tracy secured the nomination, while Democrat Juliana Stratton won her primary. Republicans also locked in several House nominees, but face challenging odds in the heavily blue state of Illinois.
