Interview with Lincoln Rohn, founder of Michigan Deer Hunters Let'em Go and Let'em Grow. Closed Facebook group, must be vetted to be part of the group. For Michigan hunters He started his own type of QDM on his property about 15 years ago Went to informational meeting about Michigan's Northwest 12 APR's which led to the formation of this group Researched one buck rule but it didn't prove to protect enough 1.5 year old books Also took too much DNR money to change two buck rule Researched Hunter's Choice rule in NE Michigan which also doesn't protect the 1.5 year old bucks APR's protect the 1.5 year old bucks as proven from the Michigan NW 12 Public land hunters as well as private land hunters are buying into this management style Over 21,000 members on this Facebook Page Group Not just a trophy buck shooter group Asking to pass on spikes and 4 points mostly Going into 2nd year of APR's would increase buck population in Michigan to over 300,000 Makes for a healthier herd and more intense rut Late breeding means too many does Now is the time for regulation changes, if not it won't happen until 2020 Managing for older bucks helps with disease control Before APR's shooting 70% - 80% of 1.5 year old bucks, after APR's only about 30% 1.5 year old bucks Hunter retention Michigan Whitetail Summit Event to promote and educate a healthy deer herd Tickets https://www.eventbrite.com/e/2017-let-em-go-let-em-grow-whitetail-summit-tickets-31213225598 Illinois water use permit State of Illinois to charge for floating or using public waterways Permit to use non motorized water vehicles, kayaks, canoes, and yes even inner tubes. Mara takes a big Ohio buck for her first archery buck on a hunt that lasts only 3 minutes! Gets out to the stand late Hears a buck grunting before she can climb into the stand Buck comes in as she is putting her release on and nocking an arrow Cody running camera barely gets the camera rolling Shot the deer from a sitting position No pass through shot Couldn't see deer drop so they pulled out Recovered deer later that night only 50 yards from the stand Dan's trip north with the girls and his brother Had great weather Saw a ton of does but couldn't shoot any Bucks not moving Paid honor to his dad Saw two wolves Dan runs a trapline and took 6 pelts Pre-Rut buck lull due to testosterone build up Mike on search of a big buck Deer not moving No sign of any bucks Hard first four days Two days straight of rain Pulled trail cam photos and saw a shooter buck Put a plan together and moved a stand to get on him Laid eyes on him finally but couldn't get a shot All the hard work this year is paying off Using the bike this year to get to stand was very successful
