<p>Bob’s depression starts when his fiancée breaks their engagement. He drinks too much, then smokes pot and begins dealing with a buddy. A jealous girlfriend turns him in and he loses his career in the air force. A lawyer helps him avoid prison but not the prison of despair. He takes anti-depressants until a friend gets saved and tells him about Jesus. After reading the Bible, Bob cries out to the Lord, then goes to Pacific Garden Mission where he serves as a counselor.</p>

<p>Homeless by choice at 15, Butch manages to elude reform school, unlike his two older brothers. His mother tries but cannot help him. His older brother dies from drinking-induced pneumonia. Panhandling, he meets a woman who sends him and friends to a mission. He leaves, then returns nine times. His drunkenness leads to crime, and he is stabbed in the stomach but lives. His mother goes to the mission, is saved and prays for him. Finally, he is given one last chance and surrenders to Christ. While blind, he gets his GED, college and master’s degrees.</p>

<p>During combat Richard vows to serve God, but afterward slides sideways until his parents’ prayers intervene. He goes to Bible college, meets Jean and they marry. They become missionaries to Indians in Mexico, then start various ministries to Spanish-speakers in Texas. Jean writes Bible doctrine books before she dies in 2008. Richard is still in ministry.</p>

<p>Robert and three buddies escape a North Korean prison camp. After his discharge Robert runs a catering business that helps when he opens a Christian rest home. He takes in his sister’s children, witnesses to his guests and fends off false accusations of misconduct in the rest homes. The first part ends as he is helping missionaries in India and bringing a couple from India to help in his rest homes.</p>

<p>John’s father is paralyzed from a job injury when John is 6, and John grows up without a father in the home. A wild child, his mother takes him along as she cleans the homes of Jews, and he learns Bible stories. They also go to church, but John rejects Christ. He uses drugs, drops out of high school to join the army and marries Carla. Children are born, but he can’t quit drugs; he goes to prison again and she waits for him. He works with Jewish gangsters and his wife and he separate. The first part ends as John’s mother dies of cancer and he is bereft.</p>

<p>Bill hates parochial school, gets in trouble and fights growing up. He joins the Marines after high school, meets Marly and falls in love. He goes to Vietnam where she stops writing after he proposes. He survives the Tet Offensive, comes home and reconnects with Marly. He becomes a drill instructor, desensitizing him to life. When his tour is up, he goes to college and he and Marly are engaged. But she gets saved and breaks the engagement. He goes to church with her, keeps going back because the church is troubled and he expects a fight. One night he attends a deacon’s meeting where he is saved. He and Marly marry. Now an evangelist.</p>

<p>Roger and Naomi are a challenge to the existing church in Banaue that takes them to court. Roger wins. He and a native believer, George, translate the Gospel of John into Ifugao. The mission wants Roger to teach chemistry in Manila, but he resists, so they send the couple to Baguio. There they establish Bible fellowships for the mountain students. After 32 years they retire and go to Israel, enduring the Gulf War. They start a Messianic ministry. Then their oldest son and family die in a plane crash. Roger and Naomi are still in ministry.</p>

<p>Joyce and Bill Scott meet in London, where she tells her life story, salvation and call to India while they ride the bus to the shipping office. They become acquainted as they sail to India together with 77 other missionaries. Bill has several humorous mishaps. They share the train ride to Secunderabad, their mission field, for language training. Two weeks after their arrival Bill proposes marriage, and the first part ends with Joyce waffling, unable to decide and not wanting to be married.</p>

<p>On his way to Vietnam Tim tells God that he can’t live for Christ. His Marine buddy, Lee Gore, tries to encourage him. After ten months of combat, Tim steps on a land mine. He comes to with Gore weeping and praying for God to spare Tim. He loses both legs; no more running. After eight months in the hospital and 13 operations, he goes home, falls in love with Connie and they marry. He surrenders to preach the gospel and then becomes an evangelist. During a revival, his old buddy Gore appears and they are reunited. Tim is still an evangelist.</p>

<p>Tillie grows up feeling unloved and marries four different men searching for love. Each husband is wrong for her. She makes bad decisions based on emotions instead of facts and leaves them out of fear. Her first daughter is born out of wedlock but her second husband adopts the girl. Tillie has several nervous breakdowns and lives mostly on welfare, turning to her sister and husband for help from time to time. Finally, she goes home. Her oldest daughter receives Christ at 21. Seeing the joy, Tillie calls a pastor who tells her the gospel and she prays for salvation.</p>

<p>Carolyn is adopted at seven months, grows up with loving but non-Christian parents. Carolyn rebels as a teenager, smokes, drinks and gets pregnant. The family doctor tells her to get an abortion. She resists but is so sick that she has the abortion and nearly dies. She aborts a second baby out of fear even though she is engaged. The marriage lasts a year. Led astray by a new-age friend and church, she spends nine years in drinking and immorality. Then she meets Rick, gets engaged, becomes pregnant, and a Christian doctor dissuades her from a third abortion. She and Rick marry, have the baby and fight because both are selfish. She meets a Christian, goes to church, gets saved and Rick repents. After her adoptive mom dies, Carolyn finds her birth mother. Now counsels in a crisis pregnancy center.</p>

<p>Pat’s real parents give her to friends who adopt her; but her adoptive dad dies when she is eight. Her drunken adoptive mom lets men abuse Pat. She abandons Pat, who goes to a children’s home where she hears the gospel and hopes God will bring back her mom. When He doesn’t, she despairs and quits believing. A self-pitying, angry girl, she leaves the home at 17, tries college, tries suicide and several times commits herself to a psychiatric ward. Hooked on drugs, she again tries suicide. A friend rescues her and they live together. She gets pregnant and they marry but fight. Pat’s entanglement with her real family leads to her leaving her husband as the first part ends.</p>

<p>Angie’s parents divorce when she is ten, and she grows up without her Italian father. Her mother works, so they go to church only on Christmas Eve. At an advanced academic school she learns English and then goes to England when she’s 17 as an exchange student, where she falls in love with philosophy and becomes an atheist. Back home, a Christian challenges a teacher about disrespecting Jesus, and Angie goes to church with a friend where an evangelist shares the gospel, which Angie fails to accept. At the university she plans to be a journalist and change the world, but her old friend gets saved and helps Angie understand God’s love. She opens her heart to Christ. A Scottish exchange students disciples her. She witnesses to her former teacher and leads her mother to Christ.</p>

<p>Frank joins the army but is so undisciplined that he is discharged honorably. Back home he meets Cheryl. They fall in love and marry and she has a calming effect. He works hard, goes to college but becomes briefly hooked on prescription drugs for stress. He works for a biomedical firm that moves them to Georgia where the owner prays for Frank one day. He’s transferred to South Carolina, and a preacher comes to their house, invites them to church to hear evangelist, Phil Kidd. The last night they go and Frank is convicted but not saved. The pastor and evangelist visit again and Frank submits to Christ. His dad professes faith before he dies. Frank forgives his mother and is now in ministry.</p>

<p>Al witnesses to inmates in the jail and the judge, who dismisses the charges. Al also shares the gospel with a neighbor, John; but he is awkward as he continues his odyssey West, seeking God’s will. He stops in Wichita and works for an airplane company where he has his first experience seeing someone yield to Christ. He drives on to Los Angeles, where he hears a Messianic Jew on Christian radio and learns personal evangelism with him. He quits his job to attend a missionary training school and goes to Africa as a missionary for three years. He does well at evangelism but has problems with other missionaries. Eventually, he leaves the mission to be an independent missionary, going to 40 countries.</p>

<p>Caleb’s mother is a widow with two daughters when she marries Caleb’s father, who is abusive, forcing his sons to read the Bible and pray. He home-schools the boys while their mother works. Caleb grows up hating religion and runs away numerous times. He prays to be saved but is never sure. He joins the army to get away but is so rebellious he is discharged. He goes to live near his grandparents and his sister, who tells him her stepfather molested her growing up. This drives Caleb away from God to drugs and the occult. He attempts suicide. In the hospital a preacher visits and shares the gospel. Caleb then goes to Hollywood to study music. Life with drug addicts is scary, and he is cheated and longs for peace. Finally, he prays, trusting God for salvation. Now in Bible college, preparing for missionary service.</p>

<p>Neil and his wife Peggy expand their hospital ministry to include prison evangelism. They use newspaper ads as well as radio to reach millions with the gospel. Anecdotal dramas provide insight into the various problems they encounter and the false religions that permeate Japan. Their son, David, and his family have joined the ministry as the second part ends.</p>

<p>Carolyn’s father becomes disillusioned with churches and keeps the family away from faith. He falls into heresy, then begins molesting her when she is twelve. Ashamed and despairing, she studies hard to get a scholarship. In high school she meets Gary who takes her to church and leads her to Christ. They marry when she is sixteen; but four years later Gary is killed in an oil rig explosion. A young man in church woos Carolyn and they marry. They serve as evangelists until he slides into exorcism and divorces her after 24 years of marriage. Today she is in prison ministry to women.</p>

<p>Bonnie meets a doctor who offers to provide drugs in exchange for sexual favors. The arrangement lasts for six years during which time she marries a second time and has a second son. Then she divorces. When the doctor drops her, she attempts suicide. Wayne Neufeld has been taking her sons to church, and he finds her limp body and takes her to the hospital. She blames Christians, returns to bars and meets a biker, who shares her with his buddies. She moves and he follows her. She is again hospitalized, told to give up drugs and alcohol, and she goes to rehab. There she reads the Bible and gets saved. She finds Wayne to ask forgiveness and they marry. Now in ministry as drug counselors.</p>

<p>Darren’s parents divorce when he’s six. His mother’s involvement with palm readers and horror movies confuse him although his father gets saved and takes him to church. Left alone, he smokes with a friend. His older brother plays in a band and Darren does, too, at age thirteen. Drugs and music consume his life. He quits school at seventeen and lives with one person after another. His dad takes him to youth camp at nineteen, where he surrenders to Christ. Now in ministry.</p>

<p>Bob’s mother abandons her three children to live with Bob’s father, who is an alcoholic gambler. Bob and his younger brother are born and grow up with fighting and fear. Two of his mother’s children return home, and his older half-brother teaches him to steal. Both boys are required to leave school at sixteen to work. The family goes to mass every week, but live sinful lives. Bob works at a machine shop with a believer who gives him a Bible and answers questions about salvation. First part ends with Bob’s salvation.</p>

<p>Stan grows up in a semi-orthodox family of Jews. His mother dies when he is twelve, causing him to question God. At eighteen he is arrested on felony drug charges. Christians pray for him, his girlfriend gives him a Bible and ultimately the charges are dismissed. Stan goes to college where fraternity friends and an older woman continue witnessing. He prays for salvation and asks God for a sign. The next evening he has dinner with Corrie Ten Boom and has his sign. He now has a ministry sharing Jewish festivals with the church.</p>

<p>Marvin grows up in a poor share-cropper family that loves music. He goes forward for salvation at fifteen but falls in with rowdy boys after the family moves to Florida. In the army he plays in a band and learns to drink. Afterward he forms his own band, writes songs and has a major country music star record one of his songs. He marries and is increasingly conflicted about the lyrics of country music. Asked to be a music director at his church, he turns away from the world to serve the Lord.</p>

<p>Born three months after her mother leaves her father, Brianna’s innocence is compromised by her drunken father. Overweight, she spends time in a bar and becomes boy-crazy at fourteen. Has an affair, gets pregnant and has an abortion. When she goes to college, she becomes promiscuous, has another abortion, then tries to straighten up. Finally, goes to church and gives her life to Christ. She goes to Bible college, marries and describes the difficulties of having an autistic son. Now has a jail ministry.</p>

<p>Thelma’s mother, who often abandons her children, forces Thelma to quit school at age fifteen and marry. Thelma’s husband dies, leaving her with eight children and no income. One daughter runs away. Destitute, Thelma gives up three daughters for adoption. “Unshackled!” writer, Kennetha, comes back home however. Thelma manages to build her own house. Kennetha gets saved and witnesses to Thelma, who is hostile to the gospel but who prays for salvation before her death.</p>

<p>Kermit’s hard drinking leads to his cousin’s death and leaves him plagued with guilt. He loses a good job and ends up on the streets where he shoots a man during a confrontation. A friend tells him about Jesus, Who will change his life. So Kermit searches for the rescue mission, comes to Pacific Garden Mission and gives his life to Christ. He and Mary are married, and he is still serving God at PGM.</p>

<p>Jim grows up ashamed of his alcoholic father, yet he loves him and does well in college until his dad dies. Then guilt and depression set in and he becomes addicted to alcohol and anti-depressants. He manages to graduate, lands a good job and marries. But alcohol controls him and he loses one job after another, even one marriage after another. The first part ends as he is arrested for DUI’s and seeks rehab.</p>

<p>Sandy Schroeder endured repeated abuse as a child and then during her marriage. She didn’t know how to forgive the ones who hurt her until she herself received forgiveness. Parental guidance is suggested because of the sensitive nature of this inspiring story of how she was set free.</p>

<p>As World War II ends, Jesse hopes for better relationship with his father. He starts a produce-hauling business, isn’t satisfied and give the business to family, then goes away to college, wanting to be a coach. Injury ends his dream; he goes to Chicago, is saved at Pacific Garden Mission. He spends the rest of his life in Chicago, running a successful awning business but helping poor young boys learn about Christ. He gives all his time and money to others.</p>

<p>Tommy grows up hating his father for drinking that leaves the family on welfare. He quits going to church and hangs out with friends, drinking and stealing. Grandmother’s godly influence ends with her death. Tommy quits school, drifts for ten years, in and out of jail for minor offenses. Then he deals crack and gets hooked. Family intervenes, take him to Pacific Garden Mission where he receives Christ. He finishes Bible college, then gets Doctorate in Theology. Now a chaplain in the U.S. Army.</p>

<p>Growing up in a godly home, Doris becomes responsible for family at age thirteen when her mother dies. Dad sends her to college, but Doris longs for fun. She marries an unsaved man against her father’s wishes. Husband’s drinking and gambling strain the marriage. Doris gives her life to Christ, and remains in a difficult and loveless marriage for 62 years for her children’s sake. Her children know the Lord because of her faithfulness.</p>

<p>Bill’s explosive temper results from older brothers who bully him. He quits church in high school and starts drinking. Marries sweetheart, but drinking and jealousy erode their marriage. Puffed with pride, he opens karate school and soaks up public attention, neglecting his wife. He writes and travels but is losing his wife. A client leads his wife to Christ, but after a blowup, she asks Bill to leave, then tells him to invite Jesus into his heart. He does, and their marriage is healed. They now run a Christian ministry.</p>

<p>A teenager during the sixties, Larry becomes rebellious, breaking rules, stealing and doing drugs. Small crimes become bigger and he lands in Florida prison for burglary. Out again, he lives on the streets, eating at rescue missions. Another crime puts him in Georgia prison, and he tries to rehabilitate himself. Strangers visit, sharing Jesus and send their pastor who explains salvation. Larry cries out to God and grows in faith through Bible study. Now married with grown children and in ministry.</p>

<p>Sam’s dad is saved and imposes restrictions on children who rebel. Sam and brother are out of control, drinking, stealing. Father gives up. Sam & brother beat a friend for stealing their musical equipment and they go to jail for six months. His Christian sister constantly witnesses to him. He marries but frequent moves and failed business ventures prepare his heart when they live with sister, go to church and receive Christ. Now in ministry.</p>
