On May 2nd, 2001, police are dispatched to the Preer residence in Chevy Chase, Maryland, for a welfare check: Leslie Preer hasn't shown up to work, and her husband, Sandy, can’t find her in their blood-splattered home. But when the officer enters, it only takes him five minutes to find Leslie's lifeless body in the shower. Immediately, Sandy Preer becomes the prime suspect in his wife's murder. And. for years, he remains the only one, until 23 years later when two detectives reopen the cold case with a new perspective: what if Sandy was innocent?
