This poem is written in the style of a psalm. Whenever we are in distress, God wants us to cry out to Him. He invites us to be totally honest about how overwhelmed we feelmaybe even how abandoned we feel (Psalm 22:1). He hears our cries, and He cares for us. Can you think of a time you were in trouble and God helped you? What happened? . As Christians, we can know that God is with usright now. Jesus is Immanuel, which means God with us (Matthew 1:23). He came to save us, and He didn’t withhold Himself from any of our suffering. In fact, Psalm 69:21 could point to one of the ways Jesus would suffer on the cross for us (Matthew 27:48; Mark 15:36; Luke 23:36; John 19:29). And Jesus guaranteed our salvation by rising from the grave! Then, He promised His followers, Surely I am with you always (Matthew 28:20). Jesus will return bodily to earth one day to right every wrong and heal all our hurts. Until then, how can remembering that Jesus is with us, and that He identifies with us in our suffering, make it easier for us to cry out to Him for help? . How do you need God’s help today? Consider taking a moment to talk to Him. . Do not hide your face from your servant; answer me quickly, for I am in trouble.
