Aprendió francés, lengua en la que escribió en 1986 su primera novela, 'El gran cuaderno', primera pieza de la trilogía protagonizada por los hermanos Claus y Lucas, a la que seguirían 'La prueba' y 'La tercera mentira', que ganó el Alberto Moravia en Italia, el Gottfried Keller y el Friedrich Schiller en Suiza y el premio austriaco de Literatura Europea.
