'Russians could destroy my home, but they will not destroy my future': Interview with a Ukrainian student in the US

bonus

Today, we’re publishing one of the last interviews conducted by David on our US trip back in September 2023. Listeners may remember David hosted a panel discussion at Georgetown University, which we later shared as a special, two-part episode. After that recording several of the students stayed to chat to their professors and David. One of the students was a freshman called Marta. Originally from Kharkiv, she had left Ukraine to study in the US. Her stories were fascinating and moving. We decided to interview her properly and returned to Georgetown a week later. In this special episode, Marta speaks about her experience growing up in Ukraine, applying for university while the air raid alarm wailed and the emotional challenge of keeping in touch with her father, who is fighting in the war.Live Event: Join us online at the US Embassy in London for a special live recording of Ukraine: The Latest:https://extra.telegraph.co.uk/events/ukraine-latest-london-embassy The event is on Thursday 15 February and starts at 18:30 GMT (13:30 ET). Inside the bunker with Zelensky: an exclusive interview with Simon Shuster

In his first book, The Showman, Simon relates how he saw firsthand Zelensky conduct this war, from the bunker to the frontlines, and how he used his experience as a communicator to articulate, and inspire, the country’s defiance. In the book and our interview, Simon examines how the brutal invasion and Ukrainian resistance changed Zelensky, creating a tougher, more serious man than he had first met in 2019 on the eve of his astonishing presidential victory. It was a privilege to be able to speak to Simon – a longtime listener of the podcast – and understand more about his time in the Presidential bunker during the first year of the war.Simon's book is available from the following links:UK Listeners:https://harpercollins.co.uk/products/the-showman-the-inside-story-of-the-invasion-that-shook-the-world-and-made-a-leader-of-volodymyr-zelensky-simon-shuster?variant=40442165362766US/International Listeners:https://www.harpercollins.com/products/the-showman-simon-shuster?variant=41083800682530 Hosted on Acast.
