Show Notes

Two Vietnamese nationals, Hoang Nguyen and Hop Nguyen, were sentenced to heavy prison terms for running a people smuggling ring from a Croydon home. They advertised boat crossings from France on Facebook, charging under three thousand pounds per person, and helped migrants claim asylum before disappearing into local Vietnamese communities. The pair earned about seven hundred fifty thousand pounds from their operations, which ran from January to April 2023. They were caught in April 2023, pleaded guilty in August, and were sentenced to ten years and six months, and twelve years respectively, plus deportation orders. The National Crime Agency seized over eight thousand pounds from Hops place. Her partner faces extradition to France, and another crew member received over ten years for the same operation. Officials vow to continue dismantling these dangerous routes exploiting desperate people.
