GMP Sergeant Tim Ansell demonstrated extraordinary bravery in July 2023, shielding his colleague from a knife attack during a routine traffic stop in Whalley Range. Ansell sustained multiple stab wounds, enabling PC Marcus Wolstencroft to use a Taser and apprehend the suspect, Jacob Brown. All three officers received top honors for their actions, which prevented harm to bystanders. Brown was later sentenced to an indefinite hospital order for attempted murder and wounding. Ansell was awarded the Kings Commendation for Bravery in March 2024.
