He is a member of the board of directors of Georgetown University and a full member of the Pontifical Academy of Fine Arts and Letters of the Virtuosi al Pantheon. Spadaro has served as editor-in-chief of La Civiltà Cattolica, the oldest and most respected Catholic journal published in Italian from Rome, now also available in seven other languages, including English. In the summer of 2013, Pope Francis, for the first time, gave three extended interviews to Spadaro, in which the late pontiff discussed his background, faith, and vision for the Catholic Church. The complete collection of these interviews was compiled and published as a book: My Door Is Always Open. Spadaro is the author of numerous books on contemporary culture, art, and literature.
