In the history of the game of baseball, there's a position which is newer than all of them: the designated hitter. Made possible in the 1973 season and included in both leagues in 2022, the DH extended the careers of many star sluggers and even was the sole career position for many including Hall of Famer Edgar Martinez, David Ortiz, and Alex Rodriguez.
