Show Notes

In this interview, Richard speaks to Baroness Elizabeth Berridge, Minister for Women and Equalities for the UK within the department of International Trade in February 2020. She’s also a Minister in the Department for Education.

Her role is varied, with no two days the same. She attends Parliament for questions and works across government. She assists the Home Office with its Violence Against Women and Girls strategy and with domestic abuse issues. She speaks to women in all kinds of roles to learn about their lived experiences and works to support young women into tech and STEM.

They talk about how to encourage more women to join the tech industry, and why employers need to be a part of that, and they examine the idea that STEM subjects are only for boys.

They also discuss new apprenticeship schemes and how these can help young people learn about technology, how the government’s ‘Build Back Better’ scheme offers opportunities for women, and how Baroness Berridge’s favourite proverb encourages her to ask for help and support.
