The Rachel Timmerman Case In 1997, 19-year-old Rachel Timmerman disappeared with her infant daughter, Shannon, just before she was set to testify against Marvin Gabrion in a rape case.
Rachel’s body was later found in a lake, bound and weighted down. Her daughter remains missing to this day. Marvin Gabrion was convicted of Rachel’s murder in 2002 and sentenced to death—a rare federal death penalty case in Michigan, a state without capital punishment.
2024 Update:
In December 2024, President Joe Biden commuted Gabrion’s death sentence to life imprisonment without parole, along with 36 other federal inmates. The decision sparked backlash from Rachel’s family, who criticized both the commutation and its timing during the holiday season.
