Episode 39: The Brobergs | A Family Invasion
EIn the early 1970's a protective initiative was put in place to protect children from predators, it was called 'Stranger Danger'. This was constructed to make the public aware that there are people who only want to hurt your children and you need to be constantly aware of those around you. However, this did not work. At all. It actually caused mass panic, creating a climate of fear and suspicion. It also averted parents eyes away from those who are most likely to be hurting their children, those that they trust most. Unfortunately, the family in this story is going to fall victim to one of the biggest manipulators we have ever seen. Once he is let into this loving family he is going to begin spinning his predatory web of deceit, blackmail, intimidation, and fear. This is a story of a loving family, who despite being infiltrated by a monster, survived to tell the tale as an unbroken unit.

EIn the town of Piehl, Wisconsin three siblings ages 9, 8 and 2 slowly finally opened their bedroom doors. They had been locked in by a plastic zip tie that was wrapped around the final staircase wrung and then their door knob. The oldest of the three girls told the others it was safe to leave. They slowly walked around their house, and saw again the reason why they had been locked in their room. The blood was everywhere and the house was so quiet. They saw the body of their mother lying on the floor stabbed to death. The girls quickly ran upstairs and it was there that the saw for the first time the body of their father, shot twice with a 12 gauge shotgun. At too young of an age the eldest girl was given the protection role over her two younger sisters and she was scared. She was nervous that the killer was still in the house. At the sight of her father she told all of her siblings to run back downstairs into the bedroom. All the girls ran. The went back into their bedroom and closed the door. She told them they would wait until the morning that it should be fine by then.

Episode 34: The Final Boy | The Murders at Lake Bodom
EThere are some tropes that commonly exist in horror movies, blown out tires, no coverage, the abandoned house, death by sex, vengeful spirits. But there is one old faithful that will reign true until the end of time. Sinning teenagers being killed off each meeting a fate more brutal than the last...all except for one. We call her the final girl. But what if we told you there is a true story behind this one. Not an urban legend that really actually happened to that one girl’s cousin’s best friend but really happened. Only in this case there wasn’t a final girl but a final boy. A boy who can’t remember what happened that night in the scary woods surrounding a peaceful lake, a boy who also can’t explain why his injuries don’t compare to the ruthless slaughter his friends endured. So what happened at Lake Bodom on June 4, 1960?

Episode 30: The Massie Affair | A Dishonorable Killing
EUnfortunately history repeats itself. I could say the words to you racism, violence, torture, and lynching and you wouldn’t know if you were going to hear a case from colonial times, pre-civil war or post. Or maybe it could be during the second revival of the klan post WWI. Or the civil rights movement of the 50s or 60s. But this case isn’t that. It is does involve the things I mention above but today we are going to talk about what became known as the Massie Affair. In 1931 the young beautiful wife of a naval officer, stationed at Pearl harbor in Hawaii was raped. It still remains a mystery as to what happened to her. But what happened afterwards is quite clear. Racism, violence, torture, and a lynching. The Massie Affair brought to life the pent up aggression of the native hawaiians as well as the aggression of those who believed that they were entitled to the island.

These formative years that people tend to reflect on for the rest of the lives is where personalities are shaped and characters are forged. And that is what we expect of our high school teachers right? To be role models for our children. But sometimes that isn’t the case. Sometimes those that are suppose to set societal examples are as depraved and twisted as the monsters they are supposed to shield our children from. That is the case here in what became known as the Main Line murders. A quiet English teacher, a mother of two will end up wrapped in chains dead in the trunk of a car, her two children never seen again. And the parties responsible for the murder will reveal a world of deception, betrayal, obsession, guns, drugs, pornography, and more often than not, money. However what if I told you the people in this crime knew exactly what was happening, and what could happen but they were unable to do anything about it because of the subculture they belong to? And to make matters worse even years after one of the most brutal domestic crimes in this country’s history the same denial of the group involved would cause yet another death. He ushers them through a window sparing them from the grotesque scene beyond the bedroom.
