Immoral Unions: Exploring Attitudes, then and now, of the Church Towards Persons who are Blind, Deafblind, and Partially Sighted

In this Triple Vision episode the team returns to its historical roots to discuss the impact of the church towards persons with disabilities, and those with blindness in particular. Shortly after the industrial revolution, as families moved from the countryside to the cities, a culture of blind begging emerged, only to be compounded by a rise in Syphilis leading to an even greater prevalence of blindness within the population. While the church set out to make the lives of these blind individuals better, there was a cost. But in this episode we also try to update those costly attitudes by speaking with Judy Robinet of the charity A Life Worth Living. Judy is putting together a curriculum to ask church’s to be more welcoming, and more compliant, with the Accessibility to Ontarians with Disabilities Act.
