When we hear the word sloth, we think of slow-moving animals or binge-watching Netflix—hardly the stuff of deadly sins. But what if we’ve misunderstood it? Sloth isn’t just laziness—it’s indifference. It’s the countless distractions that fill our time with trivial things while ignoring what’s really important. It’s the quiet voice that whispers, “Nothing really matters.” Work doesn’t matter. Life doesn’t matter. Love doesn’t matter. Faith doesn’t matter. Even God doesn’t matter. And that’s why sloth is so dangerous. It slowly pulls us away from purpose, from loving others, from serving our community, and even from believing the gospel.
