Is mercy really a practical choice? We break down the connection between mercy, justice and forgiveness. Drawing on Bonhoeffer we talk about how mercy is a type of irresistible love for the oppressed and the ways that it calls us to move beyond what’s comfortable and orient ourselves to the way of Jesus. Justin brings in some Karl Bart to remind us that Jesus frees us from the work of judging others and into the work of mercy, even if that mercy takes more than a lifetime.
